#September2024 The Puerta de Bisagra is the most famous medieval city gate in Toledo. The gate was originally built by the Moors, but the main structure was completed by Alonso Covarrubias in 1559. The gate is engraved with the coat of arms of Charles V and replaced the old Bisagra Gate as the main entrance to the city. The gate is also engraved with the emblem of King Carlos I of Spain, and on the city wall is the inscription "Glory of Spain, Light of Spanish Cities" by the Spanish literary giant Cervantes, highlighting the cultural heritage of Toledo.
