Sheringham Park, Norfolk – A Hidden Gem of the North Norfolk Coast

#cityplaybook Tucked away in the tranquil countryside near the North Norfolk coastline, Sheringham Park is a breathtaking National Trust property that deserves a spot on every nature lover’s travel list. I stumbled upon this place almost by accident on a spring road trip—and honestly, I’ve been recommending it ever since. What struck me most was the sheer scale and variety of landscapes. Designed by Humphry Repton, this historic park is a mosaic of wildflower meadows, rolling woodlands, and rhododendron-lined pathways that burst into color each spring. If you’re lucky enough to visit between late April and early June, you're in for a spectacular show—the rhododendrons and azaleas are in full bloom, turning every corner into a painter’s palette of pinks, purples, and fiery oranges. Climbing the viewing towers is a must—especially the Gazebo Tower, which offers panoramic views across the park and out toward the North Sea. On a clear day, you can even see the wind turbines off the coast. The trails are well marked and vary in length, making them suitable for casual strollers and seasoned hikers alike. I particularly enjoyed the White Trail, which winds through some of the most scenic parts of the estate. There’s a welcoming café near the visitor centre and plenty of peaceful spots for a picnic. And yes, Sheringham Park is dog-friendly, so it’s a great option if you're traveling with your four-legged friend. Best time to visit? Spring, hands down. That’s when the rhododendrons are in bloom and the wildlife is at its most active. But autumn brings its own charm with golden foliage and misty trails. Bonus Tip: Sheringham Park is just a short drive from Sheringham town and easily accessible via the A148. Parking is available, and free for National Trust members. #sheringhampark #norfolknature #hiddengemsuk #nationaltrust #springblooms #rhododendronseason #dogfriendlyuk #visitnorfolk #coastalwalks #ukstaycation #sheringhamcoast #countrysideescape
