Valparaiso, Chile, a World Heritage Site

The World Cultural Heritage Site of Valparaiso Old Town is located on the Pacific coast about 130 kilometers west of the capital Santiago. It was built in 1536. Most of the current urban buildings were rebuilt after the 1908 earthquake. It is the seat of the Chilean National Congress, the Chilean Ministry of Culture and the Chilean Navy Command. Valparaíso is an excellent example of urban and architectural development in late 19th century Latin America. The city's geographical location is like an amphitheater with a very unique layout. The country's urban buildings can be seen everywhere on the hillside, dotted with church spires, while the flat part adopts a geometric layout. Valparaiso has also preserved some interesting industrial infrastructure from its early years, such as the countless loaders and unloaders on the steep hillsides. Today it is still a paradise for graffiti artists from all over the world. The buildings, steps, telephone poles, etc. in the old city are almost all covered with various exquisite graffiti, which are also the most eye-catching for tourists.
