This month, every day outside brings various surprise encounters, and today I opened another one while passing through West 72nd Street. This ordinary alley at the border of Vancouver's west side and Richmond is now shrouded in pink mist—where cherry branches stretch across, hiding an unexpected visual feast. When I stopped to take a look, I suddenly realized I've spent the entire April chasing flowers and willows 🤭😎. Even the weather has been beautifully indulgent, spreading a clear blue sky as a canvas for the spring breeze to paint with its brush: on one side, late cherry blossoms burn with intense pink hues; on the other, new maple leaves have already soaked the paper with emerald green; tulips hold up their crystal goblets, toasting with the fragrant hyacinths; and rhododendrons seem to have spilled a palette of colors, gradually shading from ruby red to moon white. Such scenery makes one's eyes dart about in delight. Amid the sound of camera shutters, time is cut into countless petals. While tending to flowers at home, I noticed buds forming on the roses and peonies, suddenly realizing that these days spent in the company of flowers and trees are modern footnotes to Tao Yuanming's "picking chrysanthemums by the eastern fence." The spring colors of Vancouver don't need deliberate seeking—when you step outside with a heart ready to appreciate flowers, the entire city becomes a scroll of ukiyo-e paintings.
