St. Peter's Square | Bernini is everywhere

1656-1667 was the period when Bernini spent a lot of money. He designed the 240-meter-wide oval square St. Peter's Square: it consists of 280 long columns, each group of 4, creating a shocking visual effect. 7162 statues of saints were erected on the top of the long columns. The central obelisk was originally placed in Nero's Colosseum but was moved to the center of the square in the Middle Ages.
