The island's lacemaking tradition is very unique and rare even around the world. Lacemaking has been part of Burano's culture for hundreds of years. Because fishing is a thriving island, the lacemaking technique was originally developed from the skills of making and repairing fishing nets. Burano's lacework is now world famous, and the island even opened a handicraft school. The school is closed now, but instead a lace museum has opened. The cute townscape like something out of a fairy tale was worth the 1 hour 20 minute trip from the main island☺️
