A Quiet Day of Magic

The ferry ride over was breezy and beautiful, with seabirds following us into Heimaey’s tiny harbor. The island was quiet, just starting to green after winter. I explored Eldheimar Museum, where time stood still in homes buried by lava from the 1973 eruption. Then I climbed Eldfell Volcano, the wind tugging at my jacket as I stood at the summit, looking out over cliffs, sea, and steam rising from the earth. The next day, I walked to Stórhöfði and spotted puffins nesting along the edge of the cliffs — clumsy, charming, and impossible not to smile at. Spring was soft here: no crowds, no rush. Just waves, wildflowers, and the warmth of a slow sunrise. I left feeling grounded and grateful — the island had quietly made its way into my heart.
