Hectic Senior Travel: Austria, Vienna - Day 1

November 2024 Arrived in Vienna early in the morning, left our luggage at a hotel near the central station, and headed straight to Schönbrunn Palace. We had pre-purchased the Vienna City Card: - Unlimited rides on public transportation within Vienna - Numerous perks for visiting museums and tourist attractions during the stay (valid for up to 7 days from the date of issue) [Schönbrunn Palace] This summer residence was built by the Habsburg family, who ruled Europe for centuries, aiming to surpass the grandeur of the Palace of Versailles. Schönbrunn Palace boasts 1,400 rooms, of which 40 are open to the public for tours. Interestingly, the 3rd and 4th floors are rental apartments, and people actually live there. Magnificent! Splendid! The gardens were so vast that we couldn’t make it to the fountain. The Habsburg name comes up everywhere in Austria, so doing a bit of homework on the Habsburg family beforehand can make the experience much more enjoyable! If you plan to use the Vienna City Card at Schönbrunn Palace, note that you need to present it at the information center located outside the entrance gate to the palace.
