Patuxai (Victory Monument), a highlight of Vientiane

Patuxay (Lao: ປະຕູໄຊ) is a monument located at the end of the northeastern side of Lan Xang Road in the heart of Vientiane, Laos. It is a tribute to the heroes who fought for independence from France. Patuxay is decorated in Lan Xang art, featuring mythical creatures from Buddhism, such as Kinnari and Naga. The construction material used was cement from the United States, which was used to build a new airport in Vientiane, but the Lao government at that time used it to build Patuxay instead. You can walk up to the top of Patuxay to see a 360-degree view of Vientiane, which is 7 stories high and has 197 spiral steps. Each floor also has souvenir shops. #LaosTravel
