Visit the Starting Point of the Tea Road: Xiamei Village

Located in the east of Wuyishan City, on the lower reaches of the Meixi River, Xiamei Village was a tea trading market in Wuyishan during the Qing Dynasty. It was also the starting point of the Wanli Tea Road, which Jin merchants used to transport tea from northern Fujian to Russia. The Dangxi River flows through the village and merges with the Meixi River, forming a T-shaped water network. The Meixi River, which encircles the village, connects with the Jiuqu Stream, the most important waterway in Wuyishan. The Jiuqu Stream flows directly into the Min River, providing convenient water transportation. The houses are mainly brick, stone, and wood carvings in the Ming and Qing styles. They are arranged in a well-spaced layout, with exquisite structures and beautiful alleyways. Stroll through Xiamei and wander through the ancient alleys. Today, there is no hustle and bustle of boats coming and going, nor the clamor of people traveling north and south. However, the mansions of wealthy merchants and the residences of officials all bear witness to the prosperity and glory of the past.
