Xochimilco

Xochimilco, along with the historic and scenic areas around the Zocalo, is registered as a World Heritage Site. It was once an Aztec city on a lake. Xochimilco is famous for its colorful and gaudy boats called trajineras. Like Venice in Italy, people travel the waterways on trajineras and boats. You can also see boats selling miscellaneous goods and flowers, and mariachi boats playing cheerful music.
