Ertan National Forest Park

The Yalong River, originating from the Bayan Har Mountains on the Tibetan Plateau, cascades down, forming numerous shoals along its course. After entering the territory of Yanbian, at the confluence with the Hongni River, a shoal is formed, which the local villagers call Toutan. Further downstream, entering the former Jinhe Township, another shoal is created, known as Ertan, followed by Santan downstream. The dam site of the Ertan Hydropower Station is built at Ertan, where the torrential Yalong River, upon reaching this point, seems to shudder as it is intercepted by the 240-meter-high dam, then pours down from the spillway tunnels. The Ertan Hydropower Station is the largest hydropower station built in China within the 20th century. With the completion of the Ertan Hydropower Station, the Ertan National Forest Park was formed, consisting of the Ertan Dam reservoir and the vast surrounding mountains and forests. The park features the majestic power station, the vast and misty blue lake, the encircling verdant mountains, the vast primeval forests, the tranquil environment, the suitable climate, the fresh air, and serves as a natural oxygen bar.
