Gexian Mountain, Yanshan, Shangrao

🏝Gexian Mountain is named after Ge Xuan, a famous Taoist and medical scientist in the Jiangnan area during the late Han Dynasty and the founder of the Lingbao School of Taoism, who practiced Taoism, collected herbs, and ascended to heaven here. 🏝According to local historical records of Jiangxi Province, Gexian Mountain was called Yungang Mountain during the Xia, Shang, and Zhou Dynasties. In 238 AD, Ge Xuan came to Yanshan to preach and practice medicine. He first practiced Taoism on Ehu Mountain, and then built a hut on Yungang Mountain to practice Taoism and help people until he passed away. During the Xiantong period of the Tang Dynasty (860-874), Emperor Yizong of Tang honored Ge Xuan and ordered the construction of Zonghua Temple on Ehu Mountain. 🏝In 1065, Emperor Yingzong of the Song Dynasty renamed Zonghua Temple to Yuxu Temple. Wang Anshi, a prime minister of the Song Dynasty, visited Yuxu Temple and wrote a poem. In 1092, the local people built Gexian Temple to commemorate Ge Xuan. In 1104, Emperor Huizong of the Song Dynasty conferred the title of "Chongying Zhenren" on Ge Xuan. In 1246, Emperor Lizong of the Song Dynasty conferred the title of "Chongying Fuyou Zhenjun" on Ge Xuan. 🏝The Taoist culture of Gexian Mountain is nurtured by traditional Chinese culture. It integrates traditional Chinese culture (Buddhist culture, Taoist culture, and folk culture) and reflects the vicissitudes of life and the rise and fall of dynasties. The temple was destroyed by fire during the Qing Dynasty and rebuilt. Before the founding of the People's Republic of China, it was destroyed by fire twice and by war once, and rebuilt three times. 🚥[Transportation Guide] ⭐️Take a bus from Shangrao East Bus Station to Gexian Village.
