I came to Fengguo Temple in Yixian County, Jinzhou, a royal temple built in 1020 during the Liao Dynasty. The Mahavira Hall is the largest ancient hall in China, housing the world's oldest and largest clay sculpture. It represents the highest level of architecture in China in the 11th century and is one of the first national key cultural relics protection units in China. Liang Sicheng called it a thousand-year-old national treasure, a supreme national treasure. It is also the filming location of Wong Kar-wai's The Grandmaster. To fully experience Fengguo Temple, I searched through many channels before finding a way to stay at Fengguo Temple that even locals didn't know about. It's like staying in the Aman Summer Palace with a private passage to the Summer Palace. I didn't need a ticket to have a secret passage to the Mahavira Hall and could enter and exit as many times as I wanted. It was like having a Buddha view room (≖_≖). In the morning, I could see the magnificent Buddha Hall from my bed. At night, I could enjoy the night view and starry sky of Fengguo Temple alone (◍•ᴗ•◍). I could appreciate this thousand-year-old temple without being disturbed by tourists. I was immersed in it, and the shock was indescribable. The dynastic changes and wars over the past 1,004 years have not changed the layout of the Mahavira Hall. History and legend linger here.
