Zhangye Wooden Pagoda.

Zhangye was formerly known as Ganzhou, and Jiuquan was formerly known as Suzhou. This is where the name of Gansu Province comes from, and it also shows the historical importance of these two cities. Walking around the streets of Zhangye, we planned to go to the Big Buddha Temple. Halfway there, there was a square where loud ethnic music was playing. We followed the sound and saw many Uyghurs in festive costumes singing and dancing, and they kept inviting passersby to join in. It was very lively. Right in the middle of the square, we looked up and saw this wooden pagoda. We hadn't done any research beforehand, so this was quite a surprise. We thought: this pagoda is so beautiful and delicate, and it's also very spectacular. When we saw that the corners of the house were all carved with dragons holding bells, we thought this pagoda must be of high standard. We looked at the pagoda's inscription and sure enough, it was an ancient building. It was first built during the Northern Zhou Dynasty and has been rebuilt and repaired through the Sui, Tang, Ming, and Qing Dynasties. The current one was built during the Republic of China period and has a history of more than 190 years. The wooden pagoda is designed with bucket arches. It is said to have been built because of the acquisition of Sakyamuni's relics. There is a bell on the top of the pagoda. The "wooden pagoda and sparse bell" was once one of the eight scenic spots in Ganzhou. Unfortunately, we didn't hear it. However, just admiring the exterior of the wooden pagoda was a pleasant surprise.
