Encounter a Hidden Gem: Unlocking the Dreamy Journey to Mali Lengjiu
After spending too much time in the hustle and bustle of the city, we often long for a quiet place to embrace nature. Today, I'd like to share a lesser-known yet breathtakingly beautiful destination—Mali Lengjiu—and guide you through its unique charm.
I. Itinerary Planning
If departing from Chengdu, a 2-3 day trip is recommended. On the first day, drive from Chengdu in the morning, with a brief stop in Leshan to taste local specialties like Bobo Chicken and Sweet Skin Duck. Arrive at Ebian Yi Autonomous County in the afternoon, rest briefly, then explore the local market to experience Yi culture. On the second day, visit Heizhugou Scenic Area to explore Mali Lengjiu and Fengchaoyan, and stay overnight at a guesthouse or hotel within the scenic area to experience a peaceful mountain night. On the third day, sleep in and leisurely return home, concluding this relaxing journey.
II. Transportation Guide
1. Self-driving: Navigate directly to "Heizhugou Scenic Area." Road conditions are generally good, taking about 4 hours from Chengdu. Be cautious of potential falling rocks between the highway exit and the scenic area. The route offers picturesque views with several waterfalls—if stopping to take photos, be mindful of passing vehicles.
2. Public transportation: Take a high-speed train from Chengdu to Ebian, then a shuttle bus to town for about 14 yuan per person. From town, hire a car to the scenic area for approximately 100 yuan. Though slightly more complicated, this option allows you to enjoy more scenery along the way.
III. Exploring the Attractions
1. Mali Lengjiu: Meaning "meadow full of flowers" in Yi language, this area is surrounded by mountains with a flat, open meadow in the center. The meadow, stone steps, streams, trees, wildflowers, wooden cabins, and grazing cattle create a beautiful pastoral scene. Walking along the boardwalk, breathing fresh air, and feeling the gentle breeze is like entering a paradise. This is an excellent spot for photography—the famous stone steps in the water are incredibly photogenic. Recommended visiting time: about 3 hours to fully appreciate the scenery and relax.
2. Fengchaoyan: Known for its spectacular primeval forest and ancient trees, the forest has an extremely high negative ion content, making it a natural oxygen bar. It's perfect for those who enjoy hiking and fresh air. It takes just a few minutes to reach Fengchaoyan from the foot of the mountain, but completing the entire trail requires some time. Along the way, you'll see streams flowing through mountain valleys, similar to the forest creeks of Mount Qingcheng—lush and tranquil. There's also a very photogenic suspension bridge with crystal-clear water flowing beneath. Recommended visiting time: 1-2 hours.
IV. Food Recommendations
1. Yi-style Tuotuo Meat: A specialty of Mali Lengjiu, made with local black pork cut into large chunks and cooked with chili powder and other seasonings. It's authentic and delicious—a must-try.
2. Roasted Black Pork: The roasted black pork in the scenic area is also not to be missed. The skin is roasted golden and crispy, while the meat inside is tender and juicy—pure happiness in every bite.
3. Highland Potatoes: Local potatoes have a creamy texture. Whether roasted or boiled and dipped in chili powder, they offer a unique flavor.
V. Accommodation Guide
1. Midu Grand Hotel: Located within the scenic area, it's very convenient and close to both Mali Lengjiu and Fengchaoyan. The hotel has complete facilities, including natural hot springs—perfect for relaxing after a day of exploration. Prices range from 200-500 yuan depending on room type.
2. Heizhugou Town Guesthouses: For a more authentic local experience, choose a guesthouse in Heizhugou Town outside the scenic area. Most are converted from residents' homes, clean and hygienic, with more affordable prices generally between 100-300 yuan per night.
VI. Helpful Tips
1. Sun protection: Mali Lengjiu is over 2,000 meters above sea level with strong UV rays. Remember to bring sunscreen, sun hats, and sunglasses.
2. Clothing suggestions: As there's considerable activity in the scenic area, comfortable sneakers and lightweight clothing are recommended. Due to the high altitude and lower temperatures, it's best to bring a jacket even on sunny days to prevent catching cold.
3. Mosquito and insect repellent: There are many mosquitoes and insects in the mountains, so bring insect repellent to avoid bites.
4. Bring your own food: Food options in the scenic area are limited, mainly barbecue. It's advisable to bring some simple meals, snacks, and water for unexpected needs.
5. Safety precautions: Follow the signage when exploring the scenic area and don't leave the boardwalk to enter undeveloped areas to avoid danger.
Mali Lengjiu is like a forgotten gem hidden in the deep mountains, waiting for you to discover its beauty. If you long for nature and desire a peaceful yet wonderful journey, pack your bags and embark on a dreamy trip to Mali Lengjiu. You'll surely be captivated by its beauty!
