▪ Location 📍 Ruiying Temple;
▪ The Mongolian people call it "Gegensumu," commonly known as the Lama Temple. It is located in Fosi Village, Fosi Town, Fuxin Mongolian Autonomous County. It was first built in the eighth year of the Kangxi period of the Qing Dynasty (1669) and took shape in the forty-fourth year of the Kangxi period. During the Daoguang period, the temple reached its peak. At its peak, it was said to have "3,600 famous lamas, and countless nameless lamas."
▪️ During its peak, Ruiying Temple had more than 3,000 monks, and there was a saying that "3,600 famous lamas, and countless nameless lamas." The temple buildings covered an area of more than ten miles, including the Mahavira Hall, the Prayer Hall, the Nine Ministers' Prayer Hall, and the East and West Halls. Outside the Mahavira Hall, there were four large Zha Cang and De Dan Que Ling (Tibetan: An Le Ju Zu Fa Dian) and the Living Buddha Hall. There were five colleges around, built on the tops or slopes of the mountains in the east, west, south, and north. The Great White Umbrella Temple was on the northeast mountain top, the Dharma Protector Temple was on the southeast mountain top, facing north, the Tara Temple was on the southwest mountain top, the Guan Di Temple was on the southwest mountain slope, and the Relic Temple was on the northwest mountain top. In addition, there was a circular road around the temple, with ten thousand stone-carved Buddha statues standing along the road, magnificent and spectacular. By the time of the "Cultural Revolution," it had become unrecognizable. The halls in the temple were severely damaged, and there were few remaining Buddha statues, scriptures, and other religious artifacts. Only a dilapidated Mahavira Hall was preserved as a granary. The ten thousand Buddha statues on the Ten Thousand Buddha Road were also destroyed one after another. The monks were driven out of the temple.
