It was first built in the Tang Dynasty in 681 AD and is considered to be China’s most beautiful small town, and I would agree! It is beautiful and should be at the top of your list of places to visit in China. It takes about 2-3 hours to fully walk around the city while stopping occasionally to take pictures. It’s one big circular loop and you can start from your hotel, walk around in a big circle, and finish back at your hotel. There are lots of different alleyways inside the ancient city to explore, and if you choose to take your time and explore the alleyways and stop for food and souvenir shopping, then it’ll definitely take more than 2-3 hours to do the full loop.

Zhangjiajie National Forest Park is one of the most famous natural landscapes in Hunan and is known as a miracle of nature.It is known for its thousands of sandstone peaks and forests of different forms and is a world natural heritage site.Walking in Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, every mountain peak seems to tell an ancient story, which makes people intoxicated.The main attractions include Huangshizhai, Jinjiaoxi, Yuanjiajie and Tianzi Mountain.Huangshizhai can overlook the magnificent scenery of the entire forest park, Golden Whip Creek is a paradise for hiking enthusiasts, Yuanjiajie is the prototype of the “floating mountain” in the movie "Avatar", and Tianzi Mountain is a great place to watch the sunrise and the sea of clouds. Tianmen Mountain National Forest Park is famous for its spectacular Tianmen Cave and Glass Plank Road.Tianmen Cave is the highest natural mountain-piercing cave in the world, while the glass plank road hangs above the cliff, every step is full of excitement and surprises. This is a testing ground for the brave, attracting a large number of tourists seeking adventure. Mang Mountain National Forest Park is located in the middle of the Nanling Mountain Range at the junction of Hunan and Guangdong. It is named after the python infested and reckless Linhai. The forest coverage rate here is as high as 92.8%, and it is rich in animal and plant resources, making it a good place for ecotourism.

#getgoing2025 This is what people often have in mind of visiting an old Chinese town. Architecture of the buildings are stunning, really amazing. The village though increasingly becomes popular and gets commercialized. Still it has a nice vibe and atmosphere. At night it’s particularly beautiful. You won’t need more than one day. It’s best to stay overnight to experience the village at night. By taxi it takes one hour to Tongren Fenghuang Airport, busses available as well but not that frequent. Additionally Fenghuang has express bus connection to Zhangjiajie & Wulingyuan (village of Zhangjiajie National Park) which takes about 4 hours.

#getgoing2025 The town, also advertised as Furong Town, is a very distinctive tourist attraction in the mountainous area of northwestern Hunan. Built on the steep banks of the River You with buildings entirely made of wood and decorated with beautiful ornamental friezes. The network of narrow streets, alleys and small squares perfectly reproduces the lines of the medieval city with shops where all the most typical and ancient products of millenary Chinese history are sold and produced. The panoramic parts are beautiful, located on the cliffs above a waterfall that falls into the You river and crossed by bridges entirely made of wood and stone streets that plunge into the waters of the river. It is recommended to have lunch or rather dinner in the evening with the city entirely illuminated by lanterns in one of the many typical restaurants. To be seen.

#getgoing2025 Absolute highlight of our trip to China. Although it's all part of the same park, the different regions of the park look different from each other in terms of the landscaping. As others have noted - the signage isn't great. The most helpful thing to keep in mind is there are two "levels" to the park. The ground floor trails, and the top floor trails. And then technically there are trails that connect the ground and top floor. I definitely recommend taking the lifts, it's not worth your precious time and energy to hike up. The main highlights are pretty easy walking, the reason you'll sweat will be because of the heat, not because of the trail difficulty. Food is a little rough - there are several McDonalds on top of the mountains! There are lots of vendors along the trails selling bottled water, snacks, etc. They won't bother you at all, and we bought from them several times. A good amount of restrooms on the trail. I liked the Yuanjiajie Scenic area, Golden Whip Stream, and Yellow Village Scenic Area. I would stay away from Tianzi Scenic area and Yangjiajie scenic area. The trails were more difficult in those sections, and the scenery wasn't as good. You'll have a great time!!
