Izu Peninsula: A Scenic Escape with Orumoyama Charm
#japantrip
Located in Shizuoka Prefecture, the Izu Peninsula is a breathtaking destination celebrated for its stunning coastlines, relaxing hot springs, and panoramic mountain views.
One of the highlights of the region is Orumoyama, a serene area offering breathtaking views of Mount Fuji on clear days. Whether you’re hiking its scenic trails or simply soaking in the tranquil surroundings, Orumoyama is a perfect spot to reconnect with nature.
Izu is also famous for its onsen (hot springs), with resorts like Atami Onsen and Ito Onsen offering therapeutic baths surrounded by picturesque landscapes.
For coastal beauty, visit Jogasaki Coast, where jagged cliffs and azure waters create a dramatic backdrop for hiking trails and suspension bridges.
Food lovers can indulge in fresh seafood, including Izu’s renowned golden eye snapper (Kinmedai), served as sashimi or simmered in soy sauce.
History and culture enthusiasts will enjoy exploring Shuzenji Temple, an ancient Zen temple surrounded by bamboo groves and hot spring foot baths.
Whether you’re soaking in a hot spring, enjoying fresh seafood, or hiking the serene trails of Orumoyama, Izu Peninsula offers an idyllic getaway for every traveler.
Izu Live | Solo Trip to See the Sea and Mount Fuji
A manga-like landscape just 3 hours from Tokyo! I took a birthday vacation in September and decided to spend two days in Izu to see the mountains and the sea.
🍵 From the Omuroyama, the filming location of "Your Name," to the shimmering blue-green rocky coast, to the various open-air hot springs with sea views, Izu is the perfect place to relax and unwind!
📍Two-day itinerary & guide
Day 1️⃣
Morning: Tokyo - Izu-Atagawa Station
Afternoon: Jogasaki Coast
Transportation: Navigate to "Izu Oceanic Park." Take the train from Atagawa for 3 stops to "Jogasaki Coast Station," a small unmanned station. Swipe your Suica card to exit the station. There are signs for "Kadowaki Suspension Bridge" and "Izu Oceanic Park" at the entrance. Just follow the signs, no need to navigate.
🏠 You will pass through a Japanese-style villa area with many beautiful small houses.
📸 The best spot to take a panoramic photo of the Kadowaki Suspension Bridge is the observation deck to the north.
Day 2️⃣
Morning: Hotel - Komuroyama
Afternoon: Return to Tokyo
⚠️ I originally planned to visit Omuroyama! But when I went, the cable car was closed due to lightning the day before! So be sure to check the operating status before you go to avoid disappointment! If it's closed, head to Komuroyama instead!
⛰️ Komuroyama is also beautiful! You can see Mount Fuji on one side, Matcha Omuroyama on the other, and the sea on the other... It feels like a manga scene with a grassland on the horizon. After seeing it, I realized that Japanese manga is real. 😭
🚠 The cable car to the top is a single-person ride with no safety measures. You just hold on and go. It's so much fun!
🕐 The mountain is small, and you can explore it in 20 minutes.
🎫 The cable car costs 500 JPY one way and 800 JPY round trip. It closes at 4:00 pm!
❗️ Be sure to go down the mountain before 4:00 pm. The last cable car is at 4:20 pm.
🏨 I stayed at a hotel near Atagawa Station. I loved the open-air hot spring with a sea view. Most of the rooms are standard Japanese-style inns, like the houses in Detective Conan.
——That's all. Have a great day! 🥳
What to Do in Izu in Two Days?
The Izu Peninsula is a paradise for those who love the outdoors. It is close to Tokyo and has hiking trails, beaches, and water sports.
Get ready for a 2-day adventure that will leave you in awe of nature's wonders and cultural treasures!
🌊 Day 1: Start your day by exploring the charming town of Shimoda, known for its beautiful beaches and historical significance. Visit the iconic Perry Road, where you can learn about the town's connection to Commodore Perry and the opening of Japan to the world. Don't miss a visit to Shimoda Park, where you can enjoy a leisurely stroll amidst lush gardens and stunning ocean views.
⛰️ In the afternoon, head to the breathtaking Jogasaki Coast, famous for its rugged cliffs and panoramic vistas.
⛩️ Day 2: Start your day with a visit to the stunning Shuzenji Temple, nestled in the serene mountains of Izu.
♨️ Next, make your way to the enchanting Shuzenji Onsen, one of Japan's oldest hot spring resorts.
🫧 In the afternoon, venture to the scenic Kawazu Seven Waterfalls, a series of cascading waterfalls that will leave you mesmerized. Take a leisurely stroll along the well-maintained trail, stopping to admire each unique waterfall and the natural beauty that surrounds them.
[Izunokuni City] Okinawan cuisine Kukuru (Kukuru)
I went to Kukuru, an Okinawan restaurant in Ohito, Izunokuni City, Shizuoka Prefecture!
You can enjoy Okinawan dishes such as somen chanpuru and mozuku tempura!
It's a small izakaya that attracts a lot of locals♪
The food was delicious!
It's a wonderful izakaya that only locals know about!
Please go and check it out!
There are also many hot springs nearby, so it's a good place to go after a hot spring! The nearest station, Ohito Station, also has a free foot bath, so it's recommended!

~ Shuzenji in Autumn
The oldest onsen town on Shizuoka’s beautiful Izu Peninsula, it is listed as one of the “100 Best Hot Springs” in the country. Shuzenji also made GaijinPot’s list as of one the three most unforgettable ryokan and onsen experiences in Japan from travel expert Rob Goss. After soaking in the hot spring, don a yukata (a light cotton kimono), and stroll down the bamboo forest path along the Katsura River. The natural scenery is particularly stunning during autumn.

Kawazu-Nanadaru Loop Bridge and adjacent
Kawazu-Nanadaru Loop Bridge, in Japan, is an example of how to build a bridge from one mountainside to another when the sides of the mountain are so steep that it is not possible to build a road at the same elevation on both sides. It's one of the most spectacular bridges in the world.
This double spiral brings cars up or down a full 147 feet while being seemingly suspended in a valley between two mountainsides. It is an amazing bit of architecture. Coming upon this bridge in the middle of this mountain road is quite an experience. The bridge spiraling around like a serpent, was finished in 1982 and has become a popular landmark on Highway 414 heading south from Tokyo towards the hot spring resorts of the Izu peninsula.

[Shizuoka] Mount Ohira
I climbed Mt. Ohira in Numazu, Shizuoka Prefecture!
Unfortunately, it was raining so I couldn't see Mt. Fuji, but I enjoyed the forest and ran up to Mt. Ohira!
On the way, there was a tree that looked like a breast! Lol (I'll just call it the breast tree!)
Please try to find the "breast tree"!
You might get lucky!
If it's sunny, Mt. Fuji will look sharp too!!

All-you-can-play hot spring inn

"Yumeguri no Yado Shuzenji Onsen Katsuragawa"
You can use the seven private hot springs at any time, and the hotel has a lot of things to do, such as a book corner and table tennis✨
Another thing that I thought was amazing was that the buffet was all small plates with lids!
That way you can eat with peace of mind☺️♡
And above all, I'm happy that it's the best value for money!
I was surprised that you can go for around 10,000 yen per person with two meals😆

A mountain like pudding!
You can see 360°, and it takes just 20 minutes to go around once.
Omuroyama Scoria Cone has a mountain body with a base diameter of 1 km and a relative height of about 300 m, and at its center is a crater-shaped crater with a diameter of 250 m and a depth of 40 m.
A small crater with a diameter of about 50 m is also formed at an altitude of 450 m on the southern slope. The highest point of the mountain body is the crater rim on the southern side of the crater, where a triangulation point is installed.
There was an archery site in the center of the crater far below. The lift going down was even more scary.

Hand bath of the Seven Lucky Gods in Shizuoka
Just a short walk from Ito Station in Shizuoka Prefecture, Yunohana Street has a hand bath for the Seven Lucky Gods called "Oyukake Shichifukujin Meguri."
Hand baths and foot baths are common in hot spring areas, but it's rare to find seven hand baths in a shopping street.
If you warm your hands in the hand bath, you might be blessed by the Seven Lucky Gods...?!
There is also a stamp rally for the Seven Lucky Gods, so if you stamp all the stamps, you'll get a commemorative gift 🎁
