It is about 1,500 meters above sea level and is part of the Chubu Sangaku National Park. There is a Kappa Bridge in this area which is one of the famous attractions in Kamikochi. The bridge is named after the Japanese mythological creature "Kappa". The river under the bridge is the Azusa River. There is a gravel trail on each side, which is a good choice for many tourists and Japanese people to hike. The river trail has towering trees, beautiful scenery, and fresh air, so you won't feel tired walking on it. In addition, you can hear the sound of bells everywhere. It is said that there are bears in the mountains and forests. For safety, when bears hear the sound of human bells, they will avoid them, just like what we call alerting the snake. No wonder there are bells of various shapes for sale in the art shops near Kappa Bridge. It takes about three or four hours to walk to the trailhead. The tour group did not have so much time to allow tourists to hike here, so we spent about an hour enjoying the scenery along the Azusa River.

Visited Kamikochi on October 27, 2024, by booking a direct bus ticket from Matsumoto at 5:30 AM, arriving at Kamikochi around 7:05 AM. The weather was great, beautiful, and impressive. Initially, the weather forecast predicted rain because it had been raining the days before, so I was prepared for that. However, on the actual day, it didn't rain, the sky was clear, and the sun was shining. It was really beautiful. Around 10:00 AM, it started to get crowded. An important note is that you have to take your trash with you as it's hard to find a place to dispose of it, and there is a 100 yen fee to use the restroom.

Kamikochi is a popular tourist destination in Nagano Prefecture, Japan. The only way to get there is by bus because cars are not allowed to drive there. However, there are many buses available. Starting from Takayama city 1. Go to Nohi bus center and buy a round trip ticket from here to Kamikochi. Price 5,190 yen 2. The bus will not stop directly at Kamikochi, but will drop us off at Hirayu Onsen. We have to get off and transfer to this bus to Kamikochi. 🚌 (0) Takayama Nohi bus center --> (HO37) Hirayu Onsen 3. We should not get off at Kamikochi stop, but should get off at Taisyoike stop to start walking from the beginning. 🚌 (HO37) Hirayu Onsen --> (K28) Taisyoike 4. We stepped into Kamikochi, known as the Japanese Alps, and stood in this quiet valley looking at the distant mountains, which seemed to be covered with golden glory under the sunlight. This is my 11th visit to Kamikochi🥰 I went to Kamikochi when it opened, and this year was a warm winter compared to last year, so there was less snow left❄️ Kamikochi shows completely different scenery with each season, so it's a place you never get bored of no matter how many times you go☺️ This time, I walked from Taisho Pond to Kappa Bridge, but if I have the energy, I often walk from Taisho Pond to Myojin Pond. If you can walk further, you can walk to Tokusawa. If you have a chance to visit Japan, don't forget to visit Kamikochi. This is a beautiful valley on a plateau in the Hida Mountains, located in the western part of Nagano Prefecture. Let me tell you, the view is stunningly beautiful, 10/10. The weather is cool and comfortable. You can walk all day. The view along the way is very beautiful. Before reaching the destination, we stopped to take pictures at almost every spot. 🏔️🌲☁️ If you are going during any period, please study the weather carefully before going. You can drive and park in front of the park and then take a bus to get there. Let me tell you, it's very worthwhile. #kamikochi #Japan

Really beautiful mountain range also nicknamed "Japanese Alps", there are buses going from Tokyo as well as Matsumoto and other cities I guess. Your visit can be extended to multiple days if you book a stay at a local Ryokan of which there are many in the area. Book your stay in advance though, or plan the trip for one day with the easier hike options. We stayed for ~5 hours and walked from taishou pond through the bus terminal area and up to myoujin pond. The route on the left side of the river (facing upstream from the bus terminal) will take you along the river streams close to the water, while the right side is more of a nice forest walk. Be aware that the weather can be moody here, our forecast said rain, but it was actually sunny until the way back, so bring a raincoat. #passionpassport #gooutside #mountainview #nationalpark

I came to Kamikochi in Nagano Prefecture, which is designated as a cultural asset of Japan (special place of scenic beauty and special natural monument). The weather is very good and the air is very clean. When it comes to Kamikochi, there are representative spots such as Kappabashi, Taisho Pond, and Myojin Pond, but for me, I like the quiet corners where there are not many people more than the spots where people gather. In addition to feeling the greenery, you can also camp in Kamikochi. It is a reservation system and very popular, so it is first come first served. I would like to try camping once! Transportation: Take the train from Shinjuku to Matsumoto, then take a reservation-based local bus. If you are driving, park at Sawando and take the local bus there.
