All Moments About Lake Pukaki
The Perfect Reflection at Lake Pukaki🏔✨️
While driving past Lake Pukaki, I wasn’t expecting much—just another scenic stop in New Zealand. But what I saw completely took my breath away. The lake was unbelievably calm, creating a perfect mirror reflection of the snow-covered Southern Alps, especially the majestic Aoraki/Mount Cook in the distance. It was like the sky and mountains melted into the water. I had to pull over and just take it all in.
Lake Pukaki is located between Tekapo and Mount Cook, along State Highway 80. The best spot to view the reflection is from the Pukaki Lookout Point, just off the highway before heading into Mount Cook National Park.
To catch this rare perfect reflection, the weather has to be just right—clear skies with no wind, usually in the early morning or late afternoon. Avoid windy or cloudy days, as even a small ripple can break the mirror effect. Autumn and winter often offer the calmest conditions.
I’ve seen so many beautiful places in New Zealand, but this view… it topped them all. I ended up staying much longer than planned, just soaking in the silence and beauty. If you're ever driving between Tekapo and Mount Cook, don’t rush—this might be the best view of your NZ trip too!! ✨️🇳🇿👍
