History: In 1855 James Mackenzie, a Scottish shepherd turned sheep stealer discovered the basin that now bears his name when he, with the help of his dog Friday, drove flocks of sheep inland to avoid being discovered. Authorities were finally able to capture Mackenzie, but struggled to take control of the sheep due to his highly intelligent dog. It is alleged Friday continued to drive the sheep without his master's control until finally being disabled by the authorities. When we arrived, we walked to the historic Church of the Good Shepherd. This small stone church is very unique. If you want to go inside, you must pay attention to the opening hours: Tuesday morning 9-8pm; Sunday 4pm-5pm. We arrived on Wednesday so we didn't get a chance to visit. Then we walked along The Tekapo Lake, the lake was calm, very blue, very beautiful! The Church and the Lake were such scenic spots that worth taking more photos. This hotel is very close to Lake Tekapo, so it has a great location advantage. It was very convenient to be able to walk to the lake while staying at the hotel, and thanks to that, I felt that it provided the best environment to enjoy nature. The picturesque scenery that unfolded every time I opened the window or looked outside was one of the most memorable parts of my stay here, and in this regard, I think Garden Lee Hotel deserves the best praise. In terms of price, this hotel also gave me the impression that it was quite reasonable. Considering that it is located near the popular tourist destination of Lake Tekapo, I felt that the cost was not excessive compared to the services and view provided, so it was a good value for money. I think it is a good choice for those who are concerned about their budget when planning a trip. However, there were a few things that were disappointing. First, when you go out to the veranda of the room, there is no fence or partition to separate it from the next room, so it felt like privacy was somewhat lacking. Even though I wanted to spend time on the veranda, I was a little nervous about running into the guests in the next room, and if this were improved, it would be a more pleasant experience. Also, when I arrived at the hotel late at night, I was disappointed that there seemed to be a bit of a shortage of parking spaces. Although the parking lot was not full, I felt a little uncomfortable when parking because there was not enough space. Despite these shortcomings, my stay at Garden Hotel was overall very satisfactory. Considering the location where you can enjoy the beauty of Lake Tekapo up close, the great lake view, and the reasonable price, the minor shortcomings were not too noticeable.
