At first, I was confused by the complex and unfamiliar scenery, but after a day or two, I naturally adapted to the rhythm of the city. The quiet stone streets and old buildings of Intramuros made me feel like I was standing in the middle of the past, while Makati and BGC showed another charm with their trendy and lively atmosphere. The market and streets were full of people’s energy and small laughter, and I learned while traveling that it was a much warmer and more affectionate city than I had thought. Manila was a city that gave me a sense of looking deeply into ‘where people live’ rather than a tourist destination. Even if I went without a plan, the experience of being absorbed into the city’s everyday life was special enough.

Makati and BGC, with their high-rise buildings and large shopping malls, had a strong modern feel, but if you go a little further, you’ll find streets filled with traditional scenery and the smell of people living. The traffic was a bit complicated, but I was impressed by the locals leisurely enjoying their daily lives. There was a variety of street food, and it was also quite fun to visit the local traditional market. In particular, historical sites like Manila Cathedral and Intramuros were a unique experience because you could feel the traces of the colonial era. Manila was a city where you could feel the lives of people as they were, rather than a tourist destination. Even without fancy tourist attractions, the ‘real scenery’ within it is a place that will remain in your memory for a long time.
