📍Laojia Rice Restaurant Located in Nanzhuang Old Street, Miaoli, this restaurant offers authentic Hakka cuisine. The most recommended dish is the radish cake🌟, available both pan-fried and in soup. It tastes just like the ones I ate as a child, which is why I still crave it. The pan-fried radish cake is perfectly fried on the outside, soft and tender inside, with the aroma of rice and shredded radish. No other seasonings are added, which is my favorite flavor – pure and delicious. Although it's located in Nanzhuang Old Street, Miaoli, I've revisited it 4-5 times since my first visit in 2019. The mountain boasts a grand and imposing landscape, making it a must-visit destination for hiking enthusiasts. 🌲 The climb is of intermediate difficulty, with the latter part featuring steep rocky grooves and rope-assisted sections that require both hands and feet. Therefore, it is recommended for those with prior hiking experience. 🧗 After conquering Hushan, you can challenge the nearby Jialishan or Tenglongshan for a ridge-hiking adventure. Miaoli's Nanzhuang Dongcun Dormitory is quite close to Nanzhuang Old Street, just a short walk away. It offers a traditional Japanese-style B&B experience, as well as a cafe serving hand-poured coffee and homemade desserts. Even if you don't buy anything, you can still explore the beautiful Japanese garden! We arrived on a weekend afternoon, so it was deserted and we were able to take in some stunning photos. Shanshang Village, a Japanese-style building nestled in the forests of Sanwan, Miaoli, boasts a Japanese-style courtyard and pond, with parking available in front. In addition to the Japanese-style landscaping, there's also a small beach for play. The large floor-to-ceiling windows upon entering the restaurant create a relaxing atmosphere. Paired with set meals (eight options available) and hot pot, it's a great place to relax and savor the restaurant's carefully crafted dishes. It's also a great place for gatherings with friends and intimates.

The "Hand of the Giant" (also known as the "Hand of Heaven" or "Hand of the Sky") in Zhuolan, Miaoli, is a truly captivating photo spot. Many people describe it as "stepping into a fantasy world." 🤲✨ Here are a few fun and unique experiences people often share: 🖐️ The visually stunning "Hand of the Giant" The feeling of floating above the valley The hand-shaped structure juts out from the valley, looking like a giant reaching out to hold you up. When taking photos, you'll feel like you're floating in the air—a truly thrilling experience. In the distance, you'll see the vast Zhuolan Mountain scenery and the Da'an Valley. On clear days, you can see blue skies, white clouds, and the cascading mountains, creating a photo backdrop that's picture-perfect. The best times for photos are early morning or dusk. Backlit shots create a truly dreamy silhouette, making for a whole bunch of Instagram-worthy photos. 📸 😍 Fun interactions among tourists Various creative photo poses Some people posed like being lifted up by hands, grabbed by hands, jumped up and "flyed," and some couples did "princess hugs." Friends took turns being the photographer. While waiting in line, everyone helped each other take photos, often helping strangers with angles and posing, creating a fun atmosphere. Teens might get nervous. Although it's actually quite safe, the fact that your hands are suspended in the air makes stepping up a bit nerve-wracking and exciting for the first time.

🏔 Hiking Guide for Dabajian and Xiaobajian Mountains 📍 Basic Information • Location: Located at the junction of Jianshi Township, Hsinchu, and Tai'an, Miaoli, they belong to the Xueshan Mountain Range. • Height: • Dabajian Mountain: 3,492 meters, ranked 27th among Taiwan's 100 Peaks. • Xiaobajian Mountain: 3,418 meters, a famous triangular cone-shaped peak. • Features: • Dabajian Mountain is known as the "Emperor's Mountain" because of its "giant altar"-like appearance. • Xiaobajian Mountain, with its sharp triangular cone-shaped peak, is affectionately called "Little Everest" by hikers. • The scenery is magnificent, with views of the main peak of Xueshan Mountain and the Holy Ridge. ⸻ 🚗 Transportation 1. Driving: • From Taipei → Take National Highway 3 → Guanxi Interchange → Jianshi Township, Hsinchu → Enter Guanwu National Forest Recreation Area. • The main trailheads are Guanwu Trailhead or the East Dalu Forest Trail. 2. Public Transportation: • You can take a train to Hsinchu or Zhudong, then transfer to a bus or charter bus to Guanwu. However, buses are infrequent, so driving or chartering a bus is recommended. ⸻ 🥾 Hiking Route (Classic Route) 🔹 Two-Day, One-Night Itinerary (Popular) • Day 1 • Guanwu Trailhead → Dalu Forest Trail (approximately 12 km) → Madara Creek Trailhead → Jiujiu Villa (Accommodation) • The journey takes approximately 6-7 hours. It often fills up during holidays, so make reservations in advance. • Accommodation in Guanwu National Forest Recreation Area: For a more leisurely trip, stay the night before and depart early the next morning. ⸻ 📌 Notes 1. Park and Mountain Entrance Permits: • Dabajian Mountain is part of Shei-Pa National Park, so a park entrance permit is required. • It is also located in a mountainous area, so a mountain entry permit is required. 2. Summit Restrictions: • Dabajian Mountain is prohibited from summiting due to its unique terrain; you can only view it from a distance from the observation deck. • Xiaobajian Mountain is summitable, but the slope is steep, so be careful when climbing. 3. Best Seasons: • Autumn and winter (October-December) offer stable weather and good outlooks. • Summer is prone to afternoon thunderstorms, while winter may bring ice. 4. #AugustGoodPlaces2025 Maybe you're like me, having only ever walked the #HuoyanShan Trail and seen it from above. If you have the chance, remember to apply online in advance to enter the #HuoyanShanNatureReserve. The entrance is quite mysterious and takes some finding. I don't understand why it's so secretive. 😏 Continue walking through the bushes for a while until you see the reserve sign. Slowly heading inside, you'll see the towering peaks. The closer you get, the more awe-inspiring it becomes. Let's take a look at this unique terrain through my photos! 🚌💨

The new Miaoli Locomotive Park is set to open in 2025 🚥, conveniently located right next to Miaoli Train Station. The area is easily accessible, with plenty of paid parking lots and roadside parking spaces nearby. Combining the themes of train enthusiasts and cat lovers is truly a brilliant idea‼️ Visitors can enjoy free cat cuddling here, but make sure to register early. Tickets for those aged 6 and above are priced at $100, which includes a $50 credit for purchases within the park. We used ours to buy plum-flavored ice pops for $60 each. We arrived around noon, but all the cat-cuddling slots were already fully booked for the day 😂. The park itself is quite large and was bustling with visitors, likely due to the summer holiday and weekend. There are plenty of train and railway-related exhibits to explore. Each train is well-maintained, though visitors are not allowed to board them. Most of the exhibition areas are indoors, but the air conditioning is not very effective, so be prepared to sweat while exploring. This is especially true in the children's play area 🥵🥵—perhaps it's intentional to discourage kids from staying too long 😂. The play area features building blocks, toy train tracks, and other items kids love. There's also a small train ride that circles the park, which costs an additional $80 per person. Children under 90cm can be accompanied by one parent for free.

The Miaoli Locomotive Park (formerly the Miaoli Railway Relics Exhibition Hall) was reborn on April 25, 2025, with a brand new look. It not only preserves steam and diesel locomotives but also incorporates Hakka culture and adorable cat elements, creating a lively and soulful cultural experience. The park's steam engine CT152, diesel locomotive S405, and Alishan Forest Railway No. 28, like trains through time, quietly tell the story of the Taiwan Railway's century-long history and the evolution of Taiwanese craftsmanship. The surrounding Railway Village, renovated from former employee dormitories, incorporates a vision hall, a turntable exhibition, a market restaurant, and a railway cultural and creative store, making history not just something to behold but a tangible and tangible part of life. What I appreciate most is the park's design's playful integration of "cat symbols and the heaviness of railways": the juxtaposition of cat imagery and trains creates both soothing and interactive fun. Walking along the turntable, the cat murals resonate with the wheels and rails, creating a sense of the city bowing to the past while simultaneously waving a smile to the future. This place is not only a check-in spot for railway fans, but also a symphony that combines memory, culture, fun and urban reconstruction.
