Church of Agia Kyriaki and post St. Paul
#churches
The first time we attempted to visit this ancient Church there was a religious service in progress so we were not permitted to enter past the door.
The Church is a multidenominational where a number of religions use the facilities to undertake the provision of their religious Services.
Most of the walls and ceiling are bare stone walls which has a rather cooling effect. On one the walls, cover by glass is the remains of a ancient fresco, it still possible to see the outline of a face.
Simple wooden chairs form an aisle along the tiled floor leading up to the main altar. An ornate chandelier adorned with icons hangs, above the altar, from the domed section of the roof.
The main altar is a simple table covered with a cloth with a silver crucifix on it. Behind the altar is a wooden reredos, screen, which is adorned with numerous religious images, icons and topped with a large wooden cross.
After visiting some massive cathedrals in Europe, the inside of this one is not that spectacular, but the history of the location (specifically Paul's pillar) makes it a must visit. There are some platform walkways around the church, but unfortunately they were closed off
The Pillars of St Paul and the tomb and burial place of Erik Ejegod, King of Denmark are nearby.

Old church in Paphos (Cyprus)
#100WaysOfTravel
10 min walk from the Paphos harbour is this pretty church which is built upon the ruins of other churches and there are some interesting mosaics outside the church.
There is a walkway over the ruins and mosaics with info boards describing what you’re seeing and the phases of construction/destruction but these were closed off so you couldn’t really see anything.
StPauls pillar is situated near the entrance gate.

Beautiful sunset in Paphos (Cyprus)
#100waysoftravel
I visited EVERY SINGLE beach in Paphos to make sure that you discover, enjoy and remember your trip to one of the incredible Paphos beaches.
These are all the Paphos beaches that are about relaxing and catching the rays. They all have shower/toilet facilities and you’ll be able to hire a sunbed/umbrella.
• Antasia Beach Bar is on the beach and allows you to take your drinks away to your sunbeds (€2.50 each + €2.50 Umbrella). The swimming is protected by large rock banks and is as good as it gets.
• Faros Beach (Lighthouse Beach)
The beach has very good soft sand throughout and a decent amount of space to be able to set up and accommodate a decent crowd. It has a volleyball pitch, a sand football pitch, sunbeds, shower block, toilet block, cafe with food/drink, lifeguard and well-protected swimming. The facilities are a little outdated but still function completely well
• Venus Beach is a large sandy beach with a good amount of space to set up your towel and start your day. The swimming is gorgeous and protected with a large rock bank. The beach has lifeguards and a small hut to buy drinks. The beach also has a decent enough shower and toilet block
• Coral Bay Beach
This is one of the best-known beaches in Paphos and for good reason. It’s a long stretch of soft sand that can accommodate a decent amount of people and has great swimming. There is a permanent lifeguard, shop, toilet/shower block (€1 to use the shower), 2 restaurants and watersports on the beach, so there is everything you could ask for. There is even a place where you can get an on beach massage.

Explore UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Cyprus
The Archaeological Park of Kato Pafos (Paphos) is one of the most important archaeological sites in Cyprus. Since 1980, it has been included in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. It is important to note that Paphos was the capital city of Cyprus between 2nd Century BC and 4th Century AD. The park is extremely huge and the entrance fee (€4.50) is truly worth the money and time!
My favourite site is the Villa House of Aion with its marvellous and most detailed mosaics on display, dating from 4th Century BC to the Middle Ages. There are also other Houses with even more mosaics for you to admire. Remember to enjoy the site at your own pace using a self-guided tour.

Paphos Harbour Castle
Paphos was a capital of Cyprus and a very important port. So, Paphos Harbour Castle was built to protect the city and the harbor. But it has a long history. In 1222 year it was destroyed by earthquake. During next centuries it was rebuilt and destroyed several times because of different wars and changes of rules of the island. During those centuries it was a fortress and even a warehouse house for salt. But now it’s an archeological museum, and sometimes it hosts different cultural events.
It’s a nice place to walk around and learn more about the history of the island.

During your visit you will be able to see some of the more memorable houses and villas. These include:
House of Dionysus – this is a preserved ruins of a Roman villa dating to the 2nd, century known for colourful mosaics of Dionysus. It’s not clear whether only romans lived there and is believed wealthy native Greeks also could have inhabited the house.
The mosaic floor from the House of Aion is considered one of the most exceptional works of ancient Roman art, if not the only work of its kind.
House of Theseus – this exceptionally large villa was the residence of the Roman proconsul or governor, and was divided between rooms for official functions and those for private use.

Paphos Castle
#bucketlistreboot
Paphos is famous for its rocky coastline with clear water and different natural bays filled with fish. They say nearby is where Aphrodite’s herself landed when she rose from the seas.
Paphos Castle Tourists can take a stroll in Paphos’ marina area culminating the 15 min walk at the castle area. Although not an impressive construction, it does offer some great all round photos.
You can also swim in the water, as you will see multiple steps so people can go down safely into the sea. Also, if you are lucky enough you can also see turtles. Yes, turtles!

《📍Cyprus》World Cultural Heritage - Paphos Archaeological Park
Cyprus, the third largest island country in the Mediterranean, has only three UNESCO World Cultural Heritage sites, one of which is the Archaeological Park in the southwest coastal city of Paphos.
There are well-preserved ancient Roman ruins, which are as impressive as the famous Greek ruins and attract tourists from all over the world.
It takes three to four hours to walk through the park, so please allow more time and prepare enough water.
TIPS: Although it is not stated at the ticket office, students can enter for free by showing their student ID ❤️

Olympic Lagoon, Paphos
Stayed 5 nights in OL Paphos and definately lived up to its 5 stars. The Staff get what service means from the front of house, to cleaning team, bar/restaurant staff and entertainment team, they cater to your every need. The rooms were spacious and where they can they upgrade if the hotel isnt too busy so you have a better stay. The food always changed and having 4 different restaurants to choose from gives variation although some are seasonal and need a minimum stay to access. We visited the Italian which was a 7 course menu and was blown away with the quality of food. (Men please ensure have long trousers and a collared shirt) This is an all inclusive hotel and one of a high standard. Not restricted to local drinks and can get branded spirits and even kopperberg cider on tap. Yes pricey depending on when you go but food and drink are value for money. You also get allocated sun beds which you can choose and change so no worrying about what spot round the pool you might get! #poolhotel #buffets #beachlife #OlympicLagoon

A Testament to East Meets West: The History and Ruins of Paphos
Paphos, a name that shines brightly in the annals of history. Located in the southwest of Cyprus, it was once the capital of the country, witnessing countless historical changes. This city, filled with precious historical relics, has become a revered archaeological site.
Paphos's historical significance is closely linked to its unique geographical location. Situated on the Mediterranean coast, it connects the East and West, making Paphos a vital hub for ancient commerce and cultural exchange. Because of this, Paphos attracted numerous cultural elements, enriching its history.
Today, the Paphos Archaeological Park stands as a precious treasure for all mankind. The entire city was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1980, an honor that testifies to its unparalleled historical value. Here, we can witness the prosperity of ancient civilizations and feel the weight of history and the charm of culture.
Entering the Paphos Archaeological Park, the first thing that catches the eye is the walled city. Within the city are many precious ruins, the most striking of which are the buildings dating back to the beginning of the Common Era. The cathedral is one of the most prominent buildings, its magnificent exterior and exquisite interior decoration are breathtaking. The mosaics and frescoes inside the church further showcase the charm of ancient art.
Besides the cathedral, there are many other architectural ruins within the Paphos Archaeological Park. For example, the ancient theatre ruins seem to echo with the sounds of ancient dramatic performances; the gymnasium and ancient Greek Odeon evoke the flourishing ancient culture; and the Byzantine and medieval baths marvel at the ancient architectural techniques and craftsmanship.
Outside the city walls of the Paphos Archaeological Park lies a vast necropolis. Many of these tombs are large, underground structures surrounded by pillars, offering a glimpse into the funerary culture of ancient society. These tombs are not only witnesses to history but also treasures of human civilization.
Furthermore, Paphos's geographical location and historical background have made it a hotspot for archaeological research. Countless archaeologists have conducted in-depth excavations and research here, revealing many secrets of ancient civilizations. These studies not only deepen our understanding of the history and culture of ancient civilizations but also enhance our appreciation and protection of this shared human heritage.

Tombs of the Kings Cyprys
#celebrateit
Tombs of the Kings is an ancient necropolis containing numerous large tombs dating from the 4th century BCE to the 3rd century AD. The name is something of a misnomer as no kings are thought to have been buried here. The name, rather, refers to the magnificence of the tombs, which were the burial places of wealthy senior government officials and aristocrats.
Many of the tombs are very elaborate with decorated walls and columns carved out of the solid rock. The site is fascinating and very important historically, dubbed a UNESCO World heritage site. A particular type of amphora was commonly buried with the dead and these ceramics always contain a stamp that allows archaeologists to date them and other items found in the same burial.
