We have just returned from our trip to Montenegro 🇲🇪 Recently, we came back from our journey through Montenegro, and first of all, I want to share photos of the small but incredibly beautiful town of Perast, which looks like it came straight out of a postcard. Perast is tiny; you can walk through it in an hour, but you’ll want to stop at every step. The town is known for its history: during the Venetian Republic era, Perast was an important maritime center, and many locals were outstanding sailors. Thanks to this, an impressive number of palaces, churches, and stone houses from the 17th–18th centuries have been preserved here.

- Historical Background: Perast was founded by the Illyrians, and its name comes from the local Pirusti tribe. In 1336, it was a small fishing village that began to prosper during the Venetian Albania period. By the 18th century, the town had 19 Baroque-style palaces. Later, the Bay of Kotor was successively ruled by Austria, Italy, and France. In 1918, Perast became part of the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats, and Slovenes, and after Montenegro's independence in 2006, it became part of Montenegro. Geographical Environment: Perast is located at the foot of Mount St. Elijah, on a cape separating the Bay of Risano and the Bay of Kotor, overlooking the Verige Strait. The average annual temperature here is 18.3°C, with 240 days of sunshine per year. 🍁From Kotor, take the 3 PM Blue Cave boat tour. On the return trip, around 6 PM, you can be dropped off at the pier in front of Perast Bell Tower. Then, stroll around the town and wait for the sunset. While climbing up the road, I accidentally discovered this place, which turned out to be the best photo spot. 🍁Navigation: P9 parking lot, where you can park. Walk up the road for 20 meters, and there's a small opening on the right side. 🍁To return to Kotor, wait for the bus across from the drop-off point on the roadside. Buses arrive at 25 minutes past the hour. We took the 8:30 PM bus back to Kotor. The last bus is at 10:25 PM.

Activities: Exploring the old town, hiking to the fortress for panoramic views, visiting museums, and taking boat trips on the bay. The Natural and Culturo-Historical Region of Kotor was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1979. The Kotor Old Town is a maze of thin cobbled streets and small, lively courtyards. Cats roam freely amongst the historic buildings and people gather at all hours of the day. I found the best way to explore Venetian architecture and embrace the medieval vibes here is to wander until you feel lost.
