Canaima National Park is located in the southeastern Venezuelan state of Bolívar. It was established as a national park in 1962, and UNESCO designated it a World Heritage Site in 1994. Steep cliffs and extremely high waterfalls are characteristic of Canaima National Park. Canaima National Park is known as the "Land of Waterfalls" because of its many spectacular waterfalls. The most famous is Angel Falls, the highest waterfall in the world, with a drop of 979m. Devil's Valley is located at the foot of Angel Falls. The soil and rocks of this valley are dark red, so the Indians used to regard it as the residence of the devil. Because the rivers flowing through here are rich in iron, the deposition of iron has stained the soil and rocks red, and you can't help but marvel at the uncanny workmanship of nature. I flew into this tiny town called Canaima in Venezuela, and right away, I knew this was going to be an adventure. First, we took a boat through the jungle—super cool but also really hot and humid. The sounds of the jungle were all around us. After a short hike, we finally reached the spot where you can see Angel Falls. When I saw the falls, I was seriously speechless. It was so much bigger than I expected, just this massive waterfall dropping from way up high. The sound of the water was so loud, but also kind of peaceful. It felt surreal being there. One of the best parts? I swam in a little pool right under the falls! The water was so refreshing, and the power of the falls crashing down around me was just incredible. It felt like I was in another world. Returning back was also fun, because we started to hike down late in the evening, after sunset. Jungle at night is a really weird place to be. It was fun though, even though it was a little bit scary. And then we spent the night at the camping grounds across the river where we slept in the hammocks. I loved the whole experience—getting there, the boat ride, the hike, and finally seeing the falls up close.
