After leaving Tuz Lake, we headed to lunch. The meal was local cuisine, but personally, I found it not quite to my taste.
I looked up the name of the restaurant online, and it’s called Anit Iskender Kebap Konagi, located near the Atatürk Memorial. After finishing the meal, you can walk directly to the memorial.
One interesting thing about Turkish cuisine is that their beef is often cooked with lamb fat. This makes it challenging for people who don’t eat beef, lamb, or seafood to find options in Turkey. In our group, there was someone who avoided all these meats, and throughout the trip, the only meat he could eat was chicken.
Cooking with lamb fat sometimes overpowers the beef flavor, making it hard to distinguish whether you’re eating beef or lamb. Luckily, I don’t mind either beef or lamb. The lamb fat does have a distinct gamey taste, which I personally enjoy.
During meals in Turkey, I often felt that the restaurants forgot to add salt. The dishes had aroma but lacked saltiness.
However, their bread and fresh vegetables dipped in olive oil were quite good.
The restaurant was very busy, seemingly catering mostly to tour groups. After leaving, I saw a long skewer of kebabs and took a photo as a souvenir!
