They commemorate the Scaliger family, who powerfully ruled Verona from the 13th to the late 14th century. Situated in a courtyard just outside the Church of Santa Maria Antica, near the Piazza dei Signori in the heart of Verona's historic center, these #tombs stand as exceptional examples of Gothic art. Uniquely, one of the first tombs built is the one built into the church wall above a doorway rather than being freestanding. You can see it in the 4th picture I took. I recommend checking the opening times ahead, because on my visit it was already closed. However, it it still beautiful from the outside.
