Despite the freezing weather, with the icy wind biting at every inch of my exposed skin, I can say that I had an amazing time at Asahiyama Zoo! I cannot recommend this zoo enough, from its wide variety of enclosures to the insightful information that the zookeepers had shared, especially during the Penguin Feeding Time. Sadly, me and my family had missed the famed Penguin Walk, which is the talk of the town and the only reason that we had ventured to the zoo in the first place. However, I was pleasantly surprised at the amount of fun that I had even without watching cute penguins scuttling around with their webbed feet. Definitely a must-go if you were to visit Asahikawa!

Asahikawa Zoo is located in a higher location in Hokkaido, about two hours' drive away. There are many kinds of animals in it, which is perfect for bringing children and the whole family to play. When we went there, the lion had just given birth to three cubs three months ago, and they were all very cute. From mid-December to March, you can watch penguins walking around. We went in early December, so we couldn't see them. There are several restaurants in the zoo, so you don't have to worry about going hungry. The food quality is good. This is Asahiyama zoo located in Asahikawa, Hokkaido prefecture. There are buses to the zoo from Asahikawa station and it takes approximately 45 minutes to reach. The marching event are held twice daily at 11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m during December till around mid-March when the snow starts to melt. The penguins are so cute!
