The AWAGIN Meishan Cable Car connects the 5th floor of the Awa Odori Hall at the base station to the summit station of Meishan at an altitude of 290 meters. The cable car runs approximately every 15 minutes, offering views of Tokushima's seasonal natural beauty, such as cherry blossoms and autumn leaves, through the windows. From the observation deck at the summit station in Meishan Park, you can enjoy not only the beautiful night view but also, on clear days, see the Yoshino River, the Awa Mountain Range, Awaji Island, and even the Kii Peninsula.

The Awa Dance Hall is a comprehensive exchange hall that integrates sightseeing, cultural performances and tourism information. The purpose of our visit here is to enjoy the traditional Awa Dance performance. There are 4 Awa Dance noon performances every day (11:00/14:00/15:00/16:00), and the performance time is about 40 minutes. In the second half, the audience will be invited to the stage to learn and experience the Awa Dance together. There will be rewards for the best dancers! The Awa Odori is one of the most representative summer festivals in Japan. It originated in the Edo period and has a history of more than 400 years. The most widely circulated saying is that it originated from the completion celebration of Tokushima Castle. Tokushima Castle was built in 1587. At that time, in order to celebrate the completion of Tokushima Castle, the lord Hachisuka Iemasa prepared rice wine for the people in the city. Regardless of class and seniority, everyone danced together. Finally, this dance evolved into the Awa Odori. Therefore, the steps of the Awa Odori are more casual, without too fixed steps or postures, and it is very easy to learn! The 40-minute Awa Dance performance is divided into three different eras: ancient times (about 100 to 150 years ago), post-war period, and modern times. It introduces the development and evolution of Awa Dance in a storytelling format, and also introduces how different instruments and music affect the changes in dance! I had the experience of being on stage together, and was lucky enough to be chosen as one of the three best dancers. I even received a wreath and a headscarf! Personally, I feel that the Awa Dance makes people so happy that they want to join in the dance and have fun together. Even if they don’t know how to dance, they will unconsciously start dancing when they hear the music! After the audience segment, the show ended with the final performance! The lively dancers were still waving their fans to say goodbye to us after the curtain fell! This is a very interesting performance and experience.
