[2025 Yeonggwang-gun ] Travel Guide for Baeksu Coastal Road (Updated Jun)

#SpringTravel The first place where Buddhism in Baekje came is known as the place where the Indian monk Marananta came to Baekje and spread Buddhism and Buddhism. In 1998, Dongguk University professors discovered through academic research and verification that the current Yeonggwang Beopseongpo area was the starting point of Buddhism in Baekje. Yeonggwang-gun developed a tourist attraction in the current Beopseongpo area to commemorate this. Marananta is known to have come to the current Yeonggwang area during the Baekje Dynasty and spread Buddhism to Baekje. Beopseong-myeon’s Beopseongdo is also known to have the Buddhist law (法) and the saint (聖) meaning Marananta. Iljumun is a gateway in the Indian Gandhara style, and there is a Gandhara Relics Museum and a main hall where Gandhara Buddhist relics are exhibited. #BaekjeCultureBolgyoFirstPlace #Temple

The day before Chuseok, I visited Baeksu Coastal Road, which is about a 40-minute drive from a countryside house in Gwangju. Since I was already visiting home, I chose Yeonggwang for a short mini-trip. I stopped by Beopseongpo, where I briefly lived as a child, and enjoyed Yeonggwang grilled croaker for lunch. Then, I headed to this spot nearby. It’s been about 15 years since I last visited, so it felt like a long-awaited return. The coastal road features long wooden trails where you can walk and enjoy the scenery. It’s wonderful to take a stroll while overlooking the beautiful West Sea. The Yeonggwang Bridge has also been impressively constructed, making it easier to travel from the Beopseongpo side. Although the lingering summer heat was intense, the weather was nice, and the scenery was stunning. Thank you.

#koreatrip This is a coastal road adjacent to the west coast at the western end of Baeksu-eup, Yeonggwang-gun, Jeollanam-do. This road is built on a coastal cliff and is a popular driving course with an unobstructed view all the way to the horizon, and the sunset is spectacular. Personally, I really liked the view of the stormy sea. Nearby Beopseongpo is famous for its gullbi dish, and it would be nice to also enjoy a walk in the forest, the first place of Buddhism in Baekje.

Yeonggwang, located on the west coast, is a place with a really pretty sunset, so I highly recommend the Baeksu Coastal Road drive! But there is also a sunset exhibition hall here that would be good to visit together🧡 Since it is free admission, it is good to go for a light walk, but if you visit the exhibition hall here before the real sunset, and go to the nearby Daeshin Lighthouse or Observatory and watch the sunset, it will be a perfect west coast sunset tour. I visited Cafe Bori on the Baeksu Coastal Road, which is great for driving! There are many famous cafes on the Baeksu Coastal Road, but I like this one the best. I liked the interior the most, and the large windows with a view of the ocean were really nice. The coffee in particular was really good. #OceanView Yeonggwang The sea was really pretty~^^ Baeksu Beach was especially beautiful, as if the rocks were carved. The parking lot was also spacious, so it was convenient.
