The Vauban Barrage is a barrage on the Ile River, located in the southwest of the Big Island. It was built in the late 17th century and was designed by the famous French military engineer Sebastian Le Prestre de Vauban. The barrage was named after him. The Vauban Barrage consists of three floors. The ground floor has an arched design for the water flow to pass through, the upper two floors have arched windows facing the perimeter, and a viewing platform is set up at the top. The barrage is beautiful in shape and has sculptures engraved on it. The Vauban Barrage was originally constructed to serve two purposes, on the one hand, to control the flow of the river, and on the other hand, as a defensive fortress against foreign invasions.
