The next place I went to was the Notre-Dame de la Garde. It is on a hill so the climb up is quite steep, but the view of Marseille from the top was breathtaking. The blue sky and the sea are still vivid in my mind. The boat tour in the Calanques National Park was particularly impressive. The moment of sailing between the rocky cliffs and the emerald sea will be an unforgettable memory. If you like water sports, I highly recommend snorkeling! The Basilica of Notre Dame of la Garde is the most visited site in Marseille. it is located upon a hill and requires a short hike. There is transport till the parking lot. But after that it has to be a climb on foot. Given its location atop the hill, the sights are spectacular. The interior matches well, with rich murals and paintings. There is a panorama tour where they take you on special access into closed off spiral staircases and upper terraces of the church - you can buy tickets for this from the machine next to the museum entrance. The day we went it was somewhat crowded. It seems whenever the cruise arrives in town, it gets crowded. At the highest point in Marseille, you can overlook the entire city of Marseille. We took a small train up there, and along the way we could see the beach and various buildings. Climbing up to the church with the children is definitely a physical activity. There are activities inside the church, so we can't go to the innermost part, but we can still see the Virgin Mary.
