The Church of the Holy Blood is the most famous church in Bruges. According to legend, in 1150, during the Second Crusade, the Holy Blood of Jesus was brought back from Jerusalem to Bruges for collection, hence the name of the Church of the Holy Blood. This move benefited the city of Bruges, which gradually prospered. The Church of the Holy Blood is located in an alley on the southwest side of Burgplatz. You can't miss this two-story building, not only because of its finely carved facade, but also because of the many glittering golden statues on it. icon. The ground floor of the church is the Roman-style chapel and the Nagutang built in the 12th century, and the upper floor is the rebuilt Gothic chapel and the small church museum in the 19th century. Every year on Ascension Day (40 days after Easter, there is no fixed date every year), people take the holy blood from the shrine of the Treasure Hall and place it on the ornate blood rack, the priest holds it, in Bruges. Walking through the streets, believers can go up to kiss and worship. Citizens dressed in ancient Jerusalem costumes, performed the scenes of the crucifixion and the return of the Crusades, and accompanied the priest in the procession.
