Trekking through the Beijiang Little Three Gorges in the rain, from Baimiao to Feilaisi
In the early summer, my family of four set out from the Baimiao ferry, stepping onto the Beijiang plank road and wandering in the rain. The drizzle in the sky adds a hazy poetic charm. The rain moistens the Beijiang, resembling a light ink painting, with green mountains shrouded in thin mist, appearing both hidden and visible. The river flows steadily, with large and small boats shuttling back and forth, as if stories of the past and present flow upon the water's surface.
The plank road winds along the river, with each step on the wet planks making a light sound, accompanied by the babbling of the stream and the distant sound of a flute. The rhythm of nature is unceasing to the ear. Travelers either walk slowly under umbrellas or rush in raincoats. Despite a bit of dishevelment, their smiles remain undiminished, and their hearts are still ablaze with curiosity. The rain does not hinder the spirit of exploration; instead, it adds to the tranquility of the journey.
Upon reaching the ancient Feilai temple, the rain curtain envelops it, making it appear more solemn, as if recounting the vicissitudes of a thousand years. After a short rest, we return on our way. The rain gradually stops, the air is fresh, the scent of grass and moist earth is in the air, and the scenery reveals new charms.
Returning to Baimiao ferry, the worldly hustle and bustle greets us, with the lively river delicacies and the fishing boats moored at the bank. Cormorants stand idly on them, enjoying the post-rain tranquility. The road is covered with traces of flood and sand, a manifestation of the power of nature.
Trekking in the rain, although lacking the clear illumination of a sunny day, has its own unique charm and atmosphere. As we walk together in the rain, we not only experience the grandeur and delicacy of nature but also savor the warmth of family dependence.
