[2025 Taipei Stay] Travel Guide for Beitou Hot Spring Resort (Updated Mar)

#chinatransit I visited Beitou Thermal Valley, also known as Hell Valley, and was struck by its unique landscape. The valley was filled with steaming hot springs, bubbling mud, and sulfur deposits. The air was thick with the smell of sulfur, and the sound of boiling water filled my ears. As I walked through the valley, I felt a sense of awe and wonder. The natural beauty of the valley was both mesmerizing and intimidating. I felt small and insignificant in the face of such powerful natural forces. Despite the heat and the smell, I felt drawn to the valley's raw energy and power. It was an unforgettable experience that left me with a deep appreciation for the natural world.

The Sulfur hot spring is great. We enjoyed the stay at the spring hotel with private bath tub. Friendly staff and good service. We would love to come back again. The hotel needs some renovation, as it’s quite old (exactly same as 10+ years ago). The TV is too small and one side of the lift buttons don’t work. It needs some update to keep it a five star hotel. Overall, good experience.

Today, my good friends and I went to Beitou (Tian Yue Quan Spa Hotel) for afternoon tea. We ordered an afternoon tea set along with two pieces of cake and two cups of coffee slush/raspberry slush. The afternoon tea set was very sumptuous, including ice cream, two pieces of handmade cookies, sandwiches, and small egg tarts. The food was visually appealing, aromatic, and delicious. We happily chatted while eating. The environment was very elegant, and through the glass windows, we could see the greenery of the park and the blue sky with white clouds. It was a wonderful and happy time, a great afternoon tea that is highly recommended to everyone.

Beitou hot spring museum is located in Xinbeitou in the centre of Beitou Park. Entrance to the museum is free but expect a short queue as guests are required to remove their shoes and change into the slippers provided. The museum displays a well preserved traditional hot spring and educates the visitors on how to use the hot spring facilities. Personally I enjoyed the experience as I had not previously been to a hot spring before. The facilities are well maintained and the museum was not too crowded, so there were plenty of opportunities to take pictures. I recommend paying this place a visit as it is free and also provides information on how to use the hot spring. Later that day I visited Long Nice Hot Spring which is located nearby the museum and the information I learned here came in very handy. #cherryblossom2024 #hotspring #taiwan #travel

The Beitou hot springs are a must when travelling to Taiwan. Using the red line from Taipei, one can get to Beitou in around 20-45 minutes depending on the starting station. At Beitou, change to the Xinbeitou train which will take you to the entrance to the park. In Xinbeitou there are many activities which I will cover over a number of posts, but this one is dedicated to the thermal valley. From the Xinbeitou station, cross the road towards Beitou park. You can take a leisurely walk through the park and enjoy the beautiful scenery. Continuing past the public hot spring, which is located at the end of the park, you will find the thermal valley. I stayed in the Grand Pleasure Springs hotel nearby and chose to walk around the thermal valley in the morning, and was not crowded at all. There are many angles for taking beautiful photographs and selfies here. The walk is short and accessible for all. At the end of the park there are thermally heated seats if you go when the weather is cold. The weather in December at Taipei is so good, not too much cold, not too much hot. It is good to enjoy a public hot bath in Taipei. The location is Xinbeitou, it is very easy to access this location by train. MRT to Beitou station and then another signature small train to Xinbeitou station and not cost too much. This area is so fresh and many bathhouses to ennjoy the hot spring. Walk around 10 mins to the hot spring. There is one public bathhouse for free but you need to bring swimwear. This is a hot spring resort located in Beitou Hot Spring Village, Taiwan Since it is a quiet and tranquil Beitou Hot Spring Village, if you don't want to stay more than a day, I recommend a day-trip private hot spring :) Please note that there may be a wait for walk-ins during peak season and you have to time it well! Since it is a resort, you can stay more than a day, but if you pass through the hallway that looks like a room and open the door, there is a private hot spring prepared. There are both hot and cold water baths, so it's good to go back and forth and relax your body😃 You can use it for an hour and a half, and you can check out after showering! During our last 2 nights in Taipei, we stayed at Nanfeng Resort Hotel, which is about a 3-minute walk from Xinbeitou Station. It is very convenient! The feature of the room is that it has a private hot spring. The hot spring water is the white sulfur spring of Yangmingshan, which is known as the "Beauty Soup". The temperature can be adjusted by yourself, and you will smell a faint smell of sulfur after a while. In addition to hot spring bathing, the bathroom also provides a wet steam function. If you are worried that the room is too hot/humid, the air conditioner can be adjusted to hot spring/dry mode! The room was clean and had all the basic toiletries, coffee, water, tea bags, and handmade cookies by their hotel chef (I ate them and forgot to take a photo 😆) were also provided! We stayed in a triple room with three single beds and a tatami space for eating or packing. The room also has a small balcony, but there is no view~ In addition, the hotel also provides public hot springs. All staying visitors can enter and exit for free. In addition to cold, warm and hot springs, dry/wet steam rooms, there is also a rest area providing drinks and snacks.
