Though only 30 minutes from central Seoul by subway or bus, this national park boasts crazy mountain trekking, beautiful streams, scenic forests, and the Korean trail-side dining car. This park tends to be very busy on weekends, so visit it during the weekdays.

Fresh air and smell of pine trees in Bukhansan forest
Bukhansan national park is a massive area with trails of different difficulty levels. And while you need to be relatively fit to hike up to the mountain tops - it is not necessarily at all to make outing to Bukhasan park exhausting if you not in the mood for a serious hiking day.
Lower levels are a beautiful forest area with all sorts of trees with pine trees being my personal favorite. There are numerous Buddhist temples sitting in the midst pf forest to visit.
Tip: night hiking is forbidden.
One more tip: don't forget your mosquito spray!

💞Reasons to Recommend: Air is fresh, all trails are well marked, place is serene and tranquil. Lots of easy trails if you feel just like walking in a forest rather than hiking.

Fall colors finally showing at Bukhasan mountain!
Seoul finally starts to show fall colors and ginko trees are changing to yellow and maple trees - to red. It is perfect time for hiking cause weather is chilly but not cold yet, so sweating is tolerable when you walk uphill.
Any hike in Seoul is great but for the moment higher places are showing more colors, so Bukhasan National Park is just perfect! Absolutely stunning colorful forest as a reward for 2+ hours hiking uphill.
Park is huge with lots of trails from easy to difficult, just choose your level. Bring water and snacks. Bring a jacket cause while it is humid and warm in the forest, it is windy and cold at the tophill.
Most hikes can be done in running shoes and no special equipment needed. Just go and enjoy!

🏖️Ambiance/Facilities: just a few people during weekdays, weekends may be very crowded and not that enjoyable.
There are a few toilets here and there and resting areas with roofs to provide shelter from the rain.
Before start of the path to the peak - vending machines with drinks.
And at the entrance to the park you can get a map and stamp it.

Navigating the City Wilderness

Bukhansan National Park presents magnificent natural scenery, demanding hiking paths, and awe-inspiring city vistas. Nevertheless, some warn of crowded trails, particularly in high seasons, and recommend ample water and snacks for extended hikes!
Regrettably, we didn't reach the summit this time, but we'll properly prepare for it on our next visit.

Bukhansan Mountain - An Escape From the Urban Jungle
To add some excitement to our family trip, I proposed the idea of hiking up a moutain. To my pleasant surprise, both my siblings agreed wholeheartedly, and we settled on selecting the nearest and easiest mountain in the vicinity of the city for our climbing adventure.
Bukhansan mountain is located in the heart of Seoul and easily accessible by the train. Hiking this mountain was no small feat; it proved to be at least ten times more challenging than hiking Bukit Timah Hill!
Despite the steep inclines and rugged trails, we persevered and reached the summit within a span of three hours. Our efforts paid off when we were greeted warmly by the panoramic view from the mountaintop. The breathtaking sight left me in awe!
Note:
1. It is important to wear the correct shoes as some areas are steeper. When going down the steep slopes, you may slip without shoes with proper soles. Recommended to get a pair of hiking shoes!
2. Prepare some food and drinks for the hike as there are no convenience store on the way up.
3. Take a few rest stops along the way and enjoy the lush greenery of the park.
4. Don't hike alone if it is your first time!
This hike is an excellent escape from the bustling city life!
Getting There - Take Line 3 to Gupabal Station (Exit 1 or 2) and take buses 34, 704 or 720 to Bukhansanseong Fortress Entrance (북한산성) station
Attractions - Scenic city view
Hiking Trails - Bukhansanseong course to reach Baegundae Peak
Hiking Difficulty - Moderate
Hiking Duration - 4-5 hours both ways

Bukhansan in Seoul, Korea!
First time here and I’m loving the experience! Weather was perfect and there were many locals too! Sadly, we didn’t reach the peak as it was almost sunset. If you are visiting for the first time, it is best to go earlier so that you can take your time to enjoy the view and make it back down before the Sunset!
On a side note, I totally knocked out that night and missed my flight the next morning haha. Luckily, I managed to booked another flight on the very same day via Trip.com 🙏 Everything was so easy and the process only took a few minutes! So so thankful that we were able to make it back home in time for work the next day 🤣 Already planning my upcoming trips via Trip.com 🥳🥳🥳

Climbing Bukhansan Mountain in Seoul!
Including this mountain climbing is such a unforgettable experience for me during my trip in Korea. After 4hrs of climbing, I managed to reach the peak. It is quite a challenge as I did not follow a guide for this trip as well. With a coat, tights and gloves, I have a dream. To conquer this, many times I feel like giving up. however, I am glad that I did not give up in the end. #mytripvlog

Bukhansan Hike: Seoul's Stunning Summit
I had the opportunity to hike Bukhansan, the highest mountain in Seoul, and it was truly an unforgettable experience. To get there, I took the subway to Gupabal Station (Line 3), and then transferred to Bus 704 bound for Bukhansan National Park. The bus ride took about 20 minutes, and then I got off at the Bukhansan National Park entrance.
The hike itself was challenging, but well worth the effort. It took me about 4 hours to complete the trail, which covered a total distance of around 8.5 kilometers. The first part of the trail was relatively easy, with some steep inclines, but as I got closer to the summit, the trail became steeper and more difficult.
However, the stunning views from the summit made all the effort worthwhile. From the top, I could see the entire city of Seoul, and the scenery was simply breathtaking. I also had the opportunity to explore the surrounding area, which was full of natural beauty and peaceful tranquility.
Overall, I would highly recommend hiking Bukhansan to anyone who loves the great outdoors and wants to experience the beauty of Seoul from a different perspective. Just be sure to bring plenty of water, wear comfortable hiking shoes, and be prepared for a challenging but rewarding adventure.

Relaxing at Relax cafe, Bukhansan UI
The purpose of a cafe is not only to sip a cup of coffe but also to chillout and hangout with friends, colleagues and loved ones. This cafe, named Relax cafe located at Bukhansan UI, is the largest cafe I have been in Korea. It vasted a large plot of land by the river valley with excellent view of autumn foliage during autumn. It also has many small huts with different themes, not to mention different decorations of outdoor seats for visitors to have different views of autumn foliages. Although licated far away from the city, this does not stop city dwellers from visiting this wonderful place as a short getaway. Do expect a long queue at 3pm as many just finished their lunch and coming for coffee.

Stunning view but challenging hike!
When you can visit a national park without ever leaving the city you are staying in, it is an exceptional yet impressive achievement. On this hiking tour, you may spend the day getting away from Seoul without having to travel for hours. Bukhansan is breathtaking in every way. If you're staying in Seoul, it's a must. We ended up hiking through the park for about 16 km, and the views from the peaks were stunning.

I love Seoul ❤️
Such a perfect weather when I visited! Went bukhansan for the climb but need to go super early as I missed out several buses due to the crowds on Sunday… best if can visit on weekdays! didn’t manage to peak as it’s quite late by the time I reached the mid.. first time wearing hanbok at geongbukgong palace, can get free pass entry! :) too many pretty places and not enough time, Nami island, garden of morning calm, alpaca, temples etc and even taking public buses and exploring all the places r the best! plus kimchi daily ❤️ Must go Seoul ❤️ #lovekorea

Seoul to Bukhansan!
Probably one of the most popular mountains in Seoul, Bukhansan boasts a pretty tall peak of 838m, posing a good challenge for beginners yet a familiar workout for the veteran hikers like the Ajummas and Ajushis!
My friends and I started our trip at 8AM which we packed Gimbap (thankfully!) and water. It took us around 3 hour to reach to the pic, where we are rewarded with spectular views to enjoy your lunch there! You will also get to see multiple temple gates and monuments worth inspecting.
Pro-tip: Give yourself 6 - 8 hours of hiking time and do pack enough water and a light lunch on your hike!

Morning hike at Baegunda Peak

The best hiking destination near Seoul is Bukhansan
#Hiking
Bukhansan is located in the northern part of Seoul, but it is a hot place for many hikers because it is connected to the subway. Please note that you can get off at Bogukmun Station, which is located in the middle of Ui Station. It is a place that shows a truly magnificent mountain landscape despite being in Seoul~ As soon as I heard that it snowed, I checked the weather and went hiking~ It wasn't that much because it was in the Seoul area, but it showed a wide view, and it was impressive to see the whole city of Seoul~ There was a very steep road right before the top of Baekundae, so I wanted to give up, but it felt like everything was rewarded when I reached the top~ It seemed like I needed crampons because it was snowing, but I climbed up with hiking boots. There are many pajeon restaurants at the bottom of Bukhansan, so it was perfect to have a glass of makgeolli and go home. If possible, I recommend that you come by public transportation and enjoy the pleasure after hiking!

The April
The April 19th National Cemetery (also known as 4.19 National Cemetery) at the base of Bukhansan Mountain (northern part of Seoul) is a memorial for those who lost their lives during the called April 19th Revolution, in 1960. This area was open in 1995 and contains the tombs of the 224 people who died in that date. Surrounded with natural scenery, small streams and ponds, and with a diversity of trees it attracts many visitors mostly in Spring and Fall.

Chodae-gil
Chodae-gil trail, a walking trail near the base of Bukhansan Mountan, in the northern part of Seoul (near the limits with Gyeonggi-do), was open to conmemorate the inauguration of the Modern History Memorial Hall (located few minutes away from the starting point of this trail). During the trail, visitors can visit the tombs of those who fought and built the basis that formed the current Korean Republic. The total lenght of this trail is around 1.3Km, but it also connects to the Seoul Trail, so those who’d like to hike longer can take that trail.

A Journey Through Time Where Art and City Intertwine
Day 1: Early in the morning, I headed to the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Seoul. This building blends modern design with natural elements, creating an artistic atmosphere as soon as you step in. Inside the exhibition halls, I admired contemporary art pieces from Korea and around the world, ranging from abstract paintings to installation art. Each piece offered me a new perspective on the world. The outdoor sculpture exhibition in the courtyard was particularly captivating, with the artworks complementing the surrounding greenery, creating a dialogue between natural and man-made beauty. In the afternoon, I strolled through Samcheong-dong, savoring the unique charm of traditional Korean houses mixed with modern cafes. I also picked up a few art books at an art bookstore, concluding my day of artistic exploration.
Day 2: I chose to visit Bukhansan National Park to experience the grandeur and tranquility of nature. As I hiked along the winding mountain paths, I enjoyed a panoramic view of the city’s modern landscape blending with the natural scenery in the distance, forming a picturesque scene. In the afternoon, I returned to the city center and visited Ihwa Mural Village, where the streets are filled with vibrant and interesting murals, making it feel like a feast of colors. In the evening, I went back to Bukchon Hanok Village near the museum to quietly admire the traditional Korean houses under the sunset, feeling the beauty of the intersection between art and life.
