| A niche treasure trip that's incredibly exciting. I'm back from Kazakhstan, and it felt so good to fly there! I saw many people taking the bus from Xinjiang, but this time I saw a direct flight from Guangzhou and wanted to try it out. Air Astana is the flag carrier of Kazakhstan—Air Astana, and it's incredibly capable! It has won the Skytrax "Best Airline in Central Asia and CIS" award for 12 consecutive years and has continuously received the Skytrax "4-Star Airline" rating. I took the Airbus A321LR on the "Guangzhou—Almaty/Astana" route, and the business class layout was super thoughtful. With 16 seats, the odd-numbered rows have a 2+2 configuration, and the even-numbered rows have a 1+1 staggered design, with 4 seats being incredibly spacious. The most amazing thing is that it's a rare fully lie-flat seat in a narrow-body aircraft. As soon as I boarded, I switched to "lie-flat" mode, instantly transforming it into a mobile luxury bedroom. I woke up at my destination, saying goodbye to travel fatigue. This experience completely won me over👏 The business class amenities are also quite impressive. A 16-inch large screen makes watching dramas and movies during the flight super enjoyable; a luxurious down duvet, soft and warm, feels like bringing the warmth of home to the sky; a generous baggage allowance of 2 pieces at 32 kg means shopaholics don't have to worry about excess baggage; and branded toiletries, from cleansing to skincare, cover everything, enhancing the travel experience with thoughtful details. 🌆Trip highlights: (Wait for my next post for details) Once in Kazakhstan, there are countless fun places to visit. In Almaty, I highly recommend the Green Bazaar, where you can immerse yourself in the lively atmosphere of the marketplace. Taking photos here creates a fantastic atmosphere. Those seeking excitement must visit the Shymbulak mountain resort. Three cable car sections take you directly to the 3,200-meter snow-capped peak. Beneath your feet lies the magnificent Tianshan snowfield, and in the distance, city lights twinkle, making you feel like you're in a fairyland. Whether you're a skiing novice or an expert, you can find your own joy on the slopes and capture stunning photos to share on social media. If you're interested in history and culture, don't miss the Zenkov Cathedral. This all-wooden Orthodox church has a unique appearance with its eye-catching onion domes. The ski resorts on the outskirts of Almaty are a paradise for locals and ski enthusiasts! You can get there by taxi for 30 RMB half an hour from the city center or by taking bus No. 12! For less than RMB 100 for 6 round-trip cable car rides, you can immerse yourself in an entire glacier and pristine ice cave! It takes an hour and a half to hike down from the third cable car, and you can see the ice cave in Figure 1! Remember to wear crampons, sunglasses, and trekking poles as needed.

Travel dates: 15/8 - 18/8/2024 AirAsia Hong Kong -> Kuala Lumpur 🇲🇾 -> Almaty 🇰🇿 Take advantage of this Gap Year to discover the world✨! This journey took a total of 44 days and was like a dream! From Kazakhstan to Poland, mid-August to late September. Let's talk about the first country. This time I leave with a backpack and a 20-inch suitcase. I leave from Hong Kong to Kuala Lumpur, where I have to stay for one night, then to Almaty. The flight is not expensive, including the extra 7kg luggage weight, and two in-flight meals, for a total of $2188 HKD. I did my homework before, the Kazakh call car app to use Yandex go, the map to use Yandex map, both apps have to use the local mobile phone number to register, the Russian version of uber and google map, maybe the former Soviet Union relationship😂. Speaking of the journey, once I arrived, I wanted to find a bus, but I couldn't find a stop, walked from T2 to T1 (Figure 4) and couldn't find it. Starting the city walk the next morning, you have to go to the newsstand specifically to buy a transportation card, locally called the Onay card (Figure 5), but the subway (Figure 6) and bus, which cost 130 Tenge (HK$2.1) a way, take as many stops as you like. There are not many attractions in the city, mainly churches and parks, the most famous of which are the Ascended Catholic Church (Fig. 8) and First Presidential Park (Fig. 9, 10). On the third day with the local tour, I participated in the one called joinme, which included five attractions in one day, all in the suburbs of Almaty. The last stop of this trip to Kazakhstan was Almaty, a city where traditional ethnic characteristics and modern civilization naturally meet. On the day we left, we visited the Ascension Cathedral⛪️, a very dreamy-looking Orthodox church. It is said to be the second tallest wooden structure in the world, built without any nails, and miraculously survived the strong earthquake in Almaty in 1911. It is also one of the few surviving buildings from the Tsarist period in Almaty. The interior of the church is beautifully decorated, with bright murals on the walls and golden icons that are eye-catching. The sunlight shines through the stained glass, making the time spent here especially beautiful. ✈️ In the evening, we took Air Astana from Almaty back to Beijing. The flight was an Airbus 320, and the business class seats were spacious and comfortable, with plenty of legroom. As soon as I got on the plane, I felt completely relaxed, and there were many choices for dinner 😋 The shrimp rice was rich and delicious, and with the delicious smoked salmon 🍣 and creamy mushroom soup, it was definitely a sumptuous meal on board. So, have a great rest because tomorrow, the snow capped mountain is waiting for you! Day 2: Head to Shymbulak Mountain Resort. You could use online taxi or bus to go to this place. Enjoy the beautiful snow capped mountains and don’t forget to play skis if you like! Day 3: Take A Day Tour to Kolsai Lake, Kaindy Lake, along with Charyn Canyon. This trio will give you a sense on how beautiful and diverse Kazakhstan’s nature truly is! Day 4: Explore the city. Almaty is a small city, but there are several landmarks that you could visit. Take a walk at Zhibek Zholy and see how the locals activity look like. Then, Head to Zenkov Cathedral to see the Russian-style Church along with chilling in the garden. Let's start with the conclusion: Unless you're like us, just transiting and happen to have time, or coming from Yining by bus to take a look, or aiming for some special tourism, I think it's OK, but it's really not worth a special trip. As someone who has been to Xinjiang 3 times each time for more than a week, I think its natural scenery is too inferior. Almaty has two lines, one is the city's Ascension Cathedral + Big Almaty scenic area (currently temporarily closed) The other line is the Kaindy Lake and Kolsai Lakes line, which is what we took. There are three ways to go this line, charter, rent a car, join a group. Joining a group is the cheapest, only over a hundred, but you have to leave the city at more than five in the morning, and you won't return until more than ten in the evening, and it's very unsafe, we witnessed a group had a car fire, the scene was very tragic. We left the airport at around seven in the morning and returned to the airport at more than eight in the evening. The main reason for this trip was to go to Kaindy Lake, because many trees on both sides of the previous landslide broke and entered the lake, surprisingly becoming the magical 'upside-down trees', this view is very rare. Riding a horse in Kaindy Lake is 5000 Tenge per person, if you can ride a horse you can ride faster which is very good. At Kolsai Lakes, you must interact with the golden eagle, it feels very good to touch! Taking a photo with the golden eagle is 2000 Tenge per photo, you can change into local ethnic costumes, in the end we two bargained with him for 10000 Tenge and got all the photos. Also, when you come to Kazakhstan, you must try the local big skewers, super big! Charyn Canyon is called the Grand Canyon of Asia and is the second largest canyon in the world. It is a 120 million year old canyon with fantastic rock formations. There are two paths. One path is short but offers a highlight view, and the other path requires a long trek but offers a rougher view of the nature. For those who have a chance to visit Almaty, Kazakhstan, I recommend you to try the local food there for a meal to fully experience it. The restaurant I would like to recommend is NAVAT Restaurant, which has many branches. The branch I visited is located at Dostyk Ave 48. The restaurant is decorated in bright and eye-catching colors in the traditional Kazakhstani style. The beautiful lamps, brightly colored wall tiles, and patterned sofas and curtains reflect Central Asia. Inside the restaurant, there is also a Kids Club zone. From the outside, you might think that it is a luxurious and expensive restaurant because of the grand entrance. But I must say that the price is not as expensive as you think when calculated in Thai baht. The staff here provides very good service, but there are limitations in English because the staff can only speak a little. But don't worry, the restaurant has an English menu with pictures, but there are not many explanations for each menu. You have to ask the staff. But personally, I think that this is one of the charms of traveling abroad. Don't worry too much about it. You should try the local food in the places you visit. Let's talk about the food. I must say that the taste is delicious. The menu that you must try is "horse meat". The recommended menu is Besparmak. It tastes good, but it might be too salty for Thai people like us. A classic hotel in Almaty, Kazakhstan. The 5-star Rixos Hotel is in a good location, close to supermarkets, restaurants and various tourist attractions. The hotel may be a bit old-fashioned, but overall it's okay. The bed is soft and comfortable to sleep in. There's a Jacuzzi in the room. What I like is the Turkish Bath room where you can sleep on hot stones. It's very comfortable. #almaty

Rixos Almaty Hotel is a classic five-star hotel located in the heart of Almaty, not far from the Almaty Museum and a few minutes from the Nedelka Project. The hotel is just a short walk from the metro station. There is a Holiday Supermarket on the left hand side near the hotel. It is in a very good location. The lobby is very spacious and grand. In the middle is the lobby bar area with a glass roof that receives natural light beautifully. Next to the lobby bar is a restaurant that serves breakfast, which is located at the back of the hotel next to the public area. The breakfast provided is very good, both in quality and variety, worthy of the five-star hotel standard. The guest rooms look good. Although the design may look a bit old-fashioned, they still look good. There is a jacuzzi in the guest room. The bathroom floor is heated, so you don't have to worry about walking on cold tiles. The guest rooms are quite spacious and comfortable. They are fully equipped with safety boxes and iron boards. The hotel has several meeting rooms, including a ballroom and small meeting rooms. It can be said that this hotel is suitable for seminars. During my stay, seminars were held every day by many famous companies. A highlight that cannot be left unmentioned is The hotel offers a Turkish spa called Hamum (Traditional Turkish Bath), massage + scrub + body wash, similar to a spa on a warm, hot stone platform, and facial treatments. Review of Kazakhstan's Air Astana airline. This trip we flew to Istanbul with a stopover in Almaty, the old capital of Kazakhstan. The price was not expensive, the flight was not too roundabout, the connecting time was just right, and it was a full-service airline with no additional costs. We flew for 6.30 hours, then changed planes to Istanbul and flew to Istanbul for another 6-7 hours. The food on the plane was very delicious. Overall, it was very good. Importantly, we used Trip Coins as a discount on this trip.

A compactly designed park, but the interesting part is that it has a proud story of the Soviet soldiers. There are trees lining the park in the heart of Almaty, giving the feeling that you are in Europe more than Asia. The war monuments in this park are impressive and unique.
