The plateau has crystal-clear volcanic lakes, and the lakeside is dense rainforest. If you're lucky, you might see wild kangaroos bouncing around on the grass. I also went to a local farm to taste fresh dairy products and experience the purest pastoral life. Cairns is really a place that can satisfy all your fantasies about islands, rainforests, and countryside. #australiatrip Great place! Very informative, and you can even stick your head in many of the tanks to see the interior. There are even benches so that your wife can sit around and wait. The staff member there was also incredibly friendly. I felt that this place really caters to people who already know a little about tanks, and I would’ve definitely appreciated if they had one sign that explained how tanks work (who sits where, how they operated, etc). #australiatrip Cattana Wetlands started out as a sugar cane farm and sand mining quarry and has since been rehabilitated to form an enjoyable 80ha nature conservation park with a 420m boardwalk through feather palm forest, freshwater and salt water lakes and abundant plant and birdlife. Opening hours: 5.30am-7pm daily Facilities: bbqs, picnic areas, toilets, bird hides, boardwalk Location: Dunne Road, Smithfield, about 20km from the Cairns CBD. Access from Yorkeys Knob Road or McGregor Road To preserve wildlife and plants, dogs are definitely not permitted at any time. Cattana Wetlands is wheelchair accessible and a 'must see' for everyone. You won't be disappointed. Just a reminder though, insect repellent is definitely required especially during the warmer season.

#australiatrip I've been on many gondolas while skiing in Europe, Canada, and the United States. Nonetheless, the skyrail was quite impressive. Observing the rainforest from above was wonderful. Both stops were educational, informative, and had impressive views of Barron Falls and the diversity of life in the rainforest. You're making a mistake if you take the Kuranda train up AND down.

what an AMAZING experience of enjoying afternoon tea HIGH up in the hills after a trio on the skyrail from Cairns. Great topped scones with a GREAT cuppa tea. A Quaint little town- really good service and a great T - time menu. Getting the skyrail tickets on arrival was a walk in the past- the 2 stops we took up on the way up was worth the visit. we plan to be back in Cairns next year and we will undertake this trip again.
