Kruje Castle is located in central Albania and was the core stronghold of the national hero Skanderbeg's resistance against the Ottoman Empire in the 15th century. It can be reached by car from the capital, Tirana, or by bus which departs every hour. The must-visit Skanderbeg Museum in the castle recreates the epic battle with a three-dimensional sand table and weapons displays. The top-floor observation deck overlooks the entire Kruje Valley. On the east side, there is a folk museum that was transformed from a 15th-century caravan station, displaying traditional looms and bronze crafts. The weekly open-air market at the foot of the castle still continues the trade tradition of the Ottoman era, and handmade wool blankets and pottery are worth buying. It is recommended to wear non-slip shoes to climb the gravel slope and prepare plenty of drinking water in summer. In winter, some outdoor areas may be temporarily closed due to snow. It is recommended to check the local tourism bureau's homepage for updates before traveling. Parking spaces are limited, so it is recommended to arrive before 10 am during peak season.
