Central Market was the first wet market with a Bauhaus structure in the city in 1938. After years of disuse, the market was after a major renovation led by Urban Renewal Authority, which retained some original architectural structures in 2017. After four long years, Hong Kong's Grade 3 historically listed building Central Market has finally opened the doors to the public with a new look, featuring an eclectic mix of shops, food stalls, specialty restaurants, event spaces and more. It is located at 93 Queen's Road Central and 80 Des Voeux Road, interconnected between Queen Victoria Street and Jubilee Street. It is around 4 minutes 350 meters walk from Central station and is open daily from 1000-2200.

After a total face-lift, Central Market is the place to be in the heart of Central. On the second floor which was conveniently connected with footbridges to the mid-level escalator and IFC, there were lots of retail spaces, a big sustainable shop Slowood, florists, accessories etc alongside with food stalls perfect for grabbing something to go. On the first floor there are even more retail to check out, art exhibitions to see and some dine-in options and cafes. Central Market has a long history in Hong Kong since it’s first version opened for business in 1842. It used to be a wet market where locals buy fresh ingredients for their own meals or businesses. Now, however, after the revitalization project in 2021, there seems to be no trace of raw vegetables or meats had ever been put at any corner of the building. Once you enter Central Market, it felt more like a shopping mall with lots of local young entrepreneurs set up booths to promote their products, and with more unique brands of food and drinks that I don’t see in any other places. The price is a bit on the higher side which I believe because they target young people who prefer quality and good vibes. The old structure is still being kept at the market, with the grand stair cases and old Chinese signs on the wall. The market is clean, fully air conditioned, neat and modern. It is definitely a pleasant experience to go to this market. #market
