Exploring the "Oriental Ancient Castles" – Experiencing the Cultural Charm of Yongding Hakka Tulou
The summer heat may be overwhelming, but it’s also the season when rural landscapes shine the brightest. Taking advantage of the kids' vacation, we seized the perfect opportunity for a trip and embarked on a journey through history to visit the Yongding Tulou cluster in Fujian, renowned as the "Oriental Ancient Castles."
Yongding Tulou is not only home to the largest "Tulou King" in Fujian but also embodies the authentic traditions of Hakka culture. Here, we could immerse ourselves in the most primitive ethnic lifestyle while admiring breathtaking natural scenery. Just a 2-hour drive from Xiamen, it’s an ideal destination even for a short weekend getaway.
This vibrant summer, we set off to explore Yongding Tulou in Fujian, often hailed as "China’s Most Beautiful Tulou Cluster." Now, let’s dive into the local charm and cultural essence—pure joy!
During our visit, the crowds were sparse. Stepping into the scenic area right after getting out of the car, we were instantly awestruck—truly deserving of its title as "China’s Most Beautiful Tulou Cluster"! The standout structures, Chengqi Lou and Zhencheng Lou, showcase unique designs centered around defense, daily life, and artistry, vividly reflecting the wisdom of ancestors. The Chuxi Tulou cluster, with its harmonious layout, also captivates, as each building holds countless unique stories and cultural depth—especially stunning from an aerial view!
We highly recommend hiring a guide. Their professional narration, combined with firsthand exploration, deepens the appreciation of the tulou’s historical allure and cultural richness. For naturally curious children, this trip becomes both fun and educational, making it a truly rewarding and enlightening historical-cultural adventure!
