Chaoyang Tower, also known as Yinghui Gate, is located at the east end of Jianzhong Road in the center of Jianshui County. It is a landmark building of Jianshui Ancient City. During the Yuanhe period of the Tang Dynasty, the Nanzhao regime built an earthen city here. In the 20th year of Hongwu in the Ming Dynasty (1387), Lin'an Guard was established and the original earthen city was expanded into a brick city. In the 22nd year of Hongwu in the Ming Dynasty (1389), Chaoyang Tower was built, which was the east gate tower of Jianshui City at that time. In the early years of Shunzhi in the Qing Dynasty, Li Dingguo captured Lin'an City. The three towers of the South Gate, West Gate and North Gate were destroyed in the war. They were repaired in the fourth year of Kangxi, but were damaged again. Now they have collapsed and disappeared. Only Chaoyang Tower at the East Gate, despite many wars and earthquakes, still stands as before, becoming a symbol of the important town in southern Yunnan. Chaoyang Tower is three stories high and has a three-eaved hip roof structure. Standing on the top of the building, you can overlook the people of Lin'an Road from the window. Chaoyang Tower and the half-moon square next to it are leisure places for local people. The morning sun rising up the city wall and the Chaoyang Tower shining brightly at night are favorite scenes for photography enthusiasts.
