A Silent Painting, the Waves of Nazaré
Today, I went to the sea in Nazaré, two hours from Lisbon. A shore swelled with gigantic waves, and beneath them, the white sand reflected the sky.
The horizon caught its breath, and the wind steadied itself to meet me. I held my phone and stood before that endless movement.
The waves weren't just water. They were the echo of the sky, the breath of the earth.
I walked to the lighthouse observatory, snapping countless photos, but even a single photo was too much to capture the immense power.
Still, I couldn't stop. Today's sea was the most passionate moment of my life.
In the spray crashing against the white sand, there was me from yesterday, and me from tomorrow, yet to arrive.
Time mingled in the waves,
and in its midst, I saw proof of existence, the present.
When I reached the lighthouse, the sea was no longer a landscape. It was a living being. Existence was a soul that gazed at me, shook me, and awakened me.
The camera shutter became a record of that conversation, and at that moment, I stood as a dot in the heart of the sea.
Today's Nazaré spoke to me:
Art is, in the end, like a wave that swallows you and then releases you again...
I was buried there. A silent picture was being painted within me.
It was a painting completed with light, wind, and the breath of the waves. Today's Nazaré contained the greatest moment of my life.
In two hours here, I took over 1,500 photos and 200 videos, which I will slowly share on social media upon my return.
From today on, I will never again pick up a brush to paint waves.
