Georgetown, Penang, Malaysia is a world-famous tourist resort city, with thousands of tourists coming here for sightseeing and vacation every day. There are many famous Chinese cultural and historical ancestral temple architectural attractions in George Town, Penang. This time, we will introduce a famous local Chinese historical ancestral temple attraction: Shi De Tang Xie Gongsi. The location is close to the shipping terminal and bus station, with convenient transportation. The ticket is RM12 and you can take photos and videos freely. Founded in 1810, Shidetang Xie Company has a history of more than 200 years. It is a large ancestral hall built by the Xie clan members of Shitang Society, Sandu, Haicheng, Xiamen, after they lived and multiplied overseas and gathered together in Penang. It is also the oldest Chinese association in Penang. The Xie clan members who settled in Penang, in addition to being active in their own livelihood, also did not forget to offer incense to the two Fu Hougongs and Guanghui Shengwang of Liushe Temple in their hometown, and at the same time unite the clan members to defend each other. The eclectic architecture of the Shidetang Xie Company was built in 1858 and completed in 1973. The 1,500-square-meter clan temple embodies the architectural style of the Straits British rule and post-independence period. Entering the temple is an arched gatehouse located on Bentong Street. In addition, Shidetang Company also has a cultural information center. The center showcases the hometown organizations established by the Shi De Tang Company in Penang. It has always played a role in providing a place for the clan members who came from the south to find a new life and job, as well as a place to stay, socialize, and maintain contact with their hometown. Shi De Tang Xie Gong Si is also the ancestral hall of the Xie clan, one of the five major Fujian surnames in Penang in the early days. Its unique architectural features are breathtaking and it is a cultural site that you should not miss. Walking in the Xie Clan Ancestral Hall, you feel like you are in a "big house" during the Republic of China mainland period. Every brick and tile here is rebuilt in accordance with the ancient Minnan style, except for the two stone lions "guarding the gate", which replaced the traditional Chinese auspicious beasts with Western stone lions, showing the significance of the era of keen innovation of tradition. So when you come to George Town, you might as well take an in-depth journey into the past and present to broaden your horizons.
