[2025 Chengdu Attraction] Travel Guide for Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding (Updated Feb)

I spent 5 days in Chengdu and visited most of the popular attractions. It was a great trip! Here is my itinerary and experience for your reference. Day 1: I went to Chunxi Road first. The panda statue at IFS is very popular. It lights up at 6 pm and looks amazing, perfect for photos. Then I went to Xiang Feipo Restaurant. The spicy stir-fried chicken with clams was delicious, and the squid tentacles and sausage were also good. I finished all the rice. After eating, I went to Taikoo Li. The naked-eye 3D screen and LV Christmas tree were great for photos. Day 2: I went to the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding. Remember to buy a headband outside the base, as there are fewer styles inside. The base is large, and the baby pandas are adorable. If you want to see the delivery room, I recommend taking the sightseeing bus, as walking is tiring. At noon, I went to Houtang Hot Pot. It was very spicy, so hot pot lovers shouldn't miss it. In the evening, I went to Lishan Tea House. The environment was nice and relaxing. Day 3: I went to the Sanxingdui Museum. The museum is large, and it takes about 2 to 3 hours to visit. There is a coffee shop in the museum, which is a nice place to rest and enjoy some coffee and snacks. In the evening, I went to Jinli. It looks better at night when the lights are on, and it's a great place for photos. Day 4: I went to Yangtianwo Square. The giant panda sculpture is impressive. Then I went to Dujiangyan and Mount Qingcheng. I recommend joining a tour group, as climbing the mountain is tiring. If you don't want to get tired, you can just visit the foot of Mount Qingcheng. Day 5: On the last day, I went to Wenshu Monastery. The mushroom rice at Xiangyuan was good, and there is a vegetarian buffet. You can only order at 11:30 am. Then I went to Gongting Pastry Shop. The Napoleon cake was delicious, and it was worth the wait. Overall, my 5-day trip to Chengdu was fulfilling. I enjoyed the food, drinks, and attractions. The itinerary was not rushed. In the hot weather, you can only see the pandas early in the morning. After that, they go inside to eat, sleep, move around, eat, and sleep in air-conditioned enclosures. This park is huge, and small carts (for a fee) can help reduce walking distance significantly. There may be a lot of people, so it's best to go when it opens. To make your trip easier, here’s everything you need to know about the Chengdu Panda Base: 1. Passport Required for Entry: Don’t forget your passport, as it’s necessary to enter the park. 2. Best Time to See Giant Pandas: The best time to visit the Chengdu Panda Base is in the morning, when the pandas are most active. You’ll see them feeding and playing, plus it’s less crowded before noon! 3. How to Get to Chengdu Panda Base: We used DiDi (similar to Grab/Uber) and the ride cost us around CNY25-CNY35 (appx SGD5-7) from Taikoo Li, taking just 20 minutes. You can also take a bus, but a DiDi is faster and more convenient. 4. Best Gate to Enter: Most guides suggest entering through the West Gate, but I found the South Gate more convenient. Huahua is beloved because of her unique physical features. If you look closely, you'll notice her neck is a bit short, which makes her look incredibly cute ❤️. Even as a young panda, she was different from the others, enjoying posing for photos. 🐼 Besides pandas, the base also has smaller red pandas, which are reddish-brown and look like little raccoons. Total cost 4000 yuan A child from the plains visiting the plateau for the first time, Jiuzhaigou is really too beautiful~ Any random shot can be used as wallpaper, any filter would be disrespectful to it! Must go again once the high-speed rail is connected From Wuxi to Chengdu Tianfu, actually Tianfu Airport is not as demonized as said online, took the subway Line 18 at 5 pm, arrived at the hotel near Hongxingqiao Subway Station at 6 pm! Great location🉑, right out of the subway station, recommended for budget travelers! Chengdu citywalk is very convenient by subway~ Sanxingdui Museum: Take the high-speed train to Guanghan Station, a 15-minute taxi ride for 20 yuan (seems to be a fixed price) takes about 3 hours to tour, remember to buy tickets in advance for holidays!!!!!! Today was a day healed by pandas! They are just too cute! Before coming to the base, I read a lot of travel guides, fearing that I wouldn't understand how to navigate the place, but thankfully the preparation paid off! There was almost no queuing throughout the whole journey, and I saw over 20 giant pandas! I was also lucky enough to see Grandpa Tan, Hua Hua, and Ye from a distance without queuing—no more talking, let's get straight to the good stuff! Route: I did a lot of research on travel guides, and in the end, I chose to enter from the west gate because we didn't plan to rush to see Hua Hua; those who do should enter from the south gate. We arrived at the west gate at 7:00, and the park opens at 7:30. After entering the west gate, we didn't stay in the west area but took the sightseeing bus directly to Villa No. 1. We were the first ones there, and the experience was fantastic. Upon entering, we saw Hot Dry Noodles and Egg Sponge Cake, which were incredibly cute! They were eating bamboo~ (I suggest everyone arrive early, as the pandas are more lively in the morning and are eating. Although the weather was super hot and the pandas were indoor - I’m so thankful that they were all indoors because it was super hot and going inside with air con felt amazing. In Chengdu?, you MUST see the pandas 🐼 Very glad we visited the Panda Research Base in Chengdu, even though it was a hot day we still got a chance to see the pandas in their inside enclosures. 📍​20 minutes drive north from city center by taxi 45RMB. Hotels also help you arrange tours. 🎟​The entrance fee is 55RMB, you MUST book at least 24 hours in advance (see code in pictures), specially for the morning session. ⌚️​Do arrive before 10am taking into consideration lining up to enter which can take half an hour➕. we got it at 9:50 and literally 10 minutes later the pandas were fast asleep. ​The base is big,🚶 easily a 2 hour walk if you see the nursery👶 and visit all the information points, therr is also a little car that can take you to the different POI no extra fee. The base is great for children, lots of information and although we didn't take part in he volunteer program the facilities for it looked amazing. 📸 There are plenty of photo opportunities in and around the park with,.don't miss them, Panda ice creams and even the names of the roafs around the base are worth a picture. Come meet the beautiful pandas in Chengdu. It was a great day visit and learning about the pandas. The weather was great, the customer service was good and the environment was clean and welcoming. If you decide to go , wear comfortable shoes and clothing. The Bamboo Restaurant food was great. So many people were in the queues to see the pandas it’s a must visit place in Chengdu once you visit.

I loved visiting the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding! It’s fairly straightforward to take a taxi to the base and will cost roughly 50-100RMB. The park is an extremely open area with small crowds in the giant panda area. Saw many wonderful panda’s and they were adorable! The food was a bit overpriced (to be expected) but there was a large amount of options which was great. Something for everyone to enjoy. Tour Bus Service: Given that the park is an impressive 165 acres they have tour buses around the park. There is a fee of 10RMB per person, which is extremely reasonable given the size of the park. Areas to improve: Little to no one to assist and answer questions in the park. Since I walked around the park, it wasn’t very clear how to get to the baby panda area. Once I did get there was a massive crowd of people with minimal crowd control. Therefore, if you get nervous or dislike crowds it might be best to go during a weekday and definitely not during a holiday. Overall an amazing time! I bought a few very cute souvenirs at the gift shop which serve as an amazing memory of a great day! I look forward to visiting again!
