Chengtian Temple, also known as Yuetai Temple, was initially named 'Nan Zen Temple'. It was built during the last years of the Baoda era to the early years of the Zhongxing era of the Southern Tang Dynasty. In the fourth year of the Jingde era of the Northern Song Dynasty, it was granted the name Chengtian Temple. The existing temple buildings were reconstructed in the thirtieth year of the Kangxi era of the Qing Dynasty. Along with Kaiyuan Temple and Chongfu Temple, it is known as one of the three great monasteries in Quanzhou. It is also the place where Master Hongyi preached and spread the Dharma. The gate of Chengtian Temple faces east to west, with the Yuetai at the entrance, and a vertical plaque with the characters 'Yuetai' hanging high. Entering the mountain gate, there is no worship pavilion, but a long and quiet path. Chengtian Temple has gone through a thousand years, growing ever larger in scale, second only to Kaiyuan Temple. Despite being in the heart of the ancient city, it is exceptionally tranquil, like a pure land in the midst of the hustle and bustle. "Beyond the long pavilion, beside the ancient road, the fragrant grass is emerald reaching the sky..." Master Hongyi, who wrote 'Farewell', once lived in the 'Moon Platform Courtyard' within the temple, hence Chengtian Temple is also known as 'Moon Platform Temple'. The towering banyan trees with their cloud-like canopies, the monks coming and going in the corridors, the pigeons strolling leisurely, the turtles in the release pond basking on the rocks in the sun. From the primary school separated by a wall from the temple, the clear sound of reading can be heard, the wind is flowing, time is still, and everything is so peaceful and beautiful.

Due to its popularity, the rooftop is now only open to hotel guests, so I chose to stay at this hotel. The location is excellent, with the Bell Tower and West Street just a five-minute walk away. Chengtian Temple was originally the southern garden of the Five Dynasties' Jiedushi Liu Congxiao, and the temple was built from the end of the Baoda period of the Southern Tang Dynasty to the beginning of the Zhongxing period, initially named 'Nan Chan Temple'.
