Türkiye Station 47, Trojan Horse
Canakkale is a charming city in Türkiye, located at the narrowest point of the Dardanelles and has an excellent geographical location. The city combines rich history with beautiful natural scenery. Ancient ruins can be seen everywhere in the city, witnessing the glory and vicissitudes of past civilizations. Walking along the strait, ships shuttle back and forth, contrasting with the blue sea.
⛱️Must-see attractions:
[One] Troy Memorial: On the coastal road of Canakkale, near Tevfikiye Bay, on the promenade east of the harbor, Figure 1. This statue cannot be climbed, and is mainly used for taking photos. There is a small Troy Memorial next to it.
[Two] Canakkale Clock Tower: Figure 2, a landmark building by the harbor with a unique style. There are many restaurants and cafes around it, and it is a favorite gathering place for local people.
[Three] Çanakkale Castle: Also known as Chimerik Castle, it is a castle of great historical significance. It was a solid fortification in the cold weapon era. Today it is part of the Çanakkale Naval Museum and you need to buy a ticket to visit.
[Four] Ruins of the Ancient City of Troy: The site where the Trojan War in Homer’s epic poem took place. You can visit the ancient city walls, city gates, palaces and other ruins to experience the charm of ancient Greek civilization.
🌄Travel tips:
My personal suggestion is to stay for one day and play for two and a half days. Because of the location of Canakkale, it takes nearly four or five hours to drive from Istanbul, and it takes two or three hours to continue driving south to play in the sea. It is a city worth stopping at.
[One] Day Tour: Visit the ruins of ancient Troy in the morning, go to the Çanakkale Archaeological Museum in the afternoon, and stroll along the harbor in the evening to enjoy the night view of the Dardanelles and taste local food.
[Two] Two-day tour: On the first day, visit the ruins of the ancient city of Troy and the Trojan Monument, and experience nightlife in the city at night; on the second day, visit the Dardanelles Strait, the Canakkale Archaeological Museum, the Canakkale Clock Tower and other attractions.
🏨Accommodation Guide: The local accommodation in Çanakkale is not cheap, which is quite surprising.
1. Altnakoya Hotel: Located on the Canakkale seafront, with air conditioning and a private beach;
2. Gallipoli Hotel: Simple rooms, air conditioning, swimming pool, free parking;
3. Saturation Art Hotel: Close to Canakkale Airport, about 8km, with many attractions around, clean rooms and good service.
💗Other tips: Çanakkale is not only the place where the Trojan War took place, but also the starting point for Alexander the Great to enter Asia. The Trojan Monument has witnessed many major historical events and is an important physical material for studying ancient Greek civilization and the Trojan War. It has extremely high historical and cultural value.
