The following is a Nanjiluo travel guide:
Pre-trip preparation
- Documents: Bring your ID card and other valid documents.
- Clothing: Prepare quick-drying clothes, fleece jackets, down liners, and windbreakers. For bottoms, wear quick-drying leggings and thin fleece-lined windbreaker pants. Also, bring mid- to high-top waterproof and non-slip hiking shoes, crampons, warm gloves, an outdoor waterproof hat, sweat-wicking socks, and knee pads.
- Other items: Prepare trekking poles, a raincoat, trash bags, a large-capacity power bank, sunscreen, lip balm, and sunglasses.
- Medicines: Cold medicine, antipyretics, gastrointestinal medicine, motion sickness medicine, allergy medicine, headache medicine, altitude sickness medicine, glucose, oxygen, etc.
- Supplies: Prepare a small amount of bread, chocolate, Snickers bars, and other lightweight, high-calorie foods, as well as an appropriate amount of water.
Transportation Guide
- External transportation: You can first go to Shangri-La or Lijiang, and then go to Nanjiluo. It is about a 4-hour drive from Shangri-La and about a 6-hour drive from Lijiang.
- Internal transportation: Vehicles can only reach the Nanjiluo Village Committee. To enter the mountain, you need to transfer to a local villager's off-road vehicle. The cost is CNY 300/person, and you need to make a reservation by phone in advance.
Accommodation
- Badi Township: Close to the hiking entrance, about a 15-minute drive, but the accommodation conditions are average.
- Cicun Village: The accommodation environment is slightly better, but it is a little further from the hiking entrance, about a 30-minute drive.
Attractions and Routes
- Small loop: Starting from Lake No. 3, go to Lakes No. 4 and 5, which is about 4 km round trip and takes 3–4 hours, suitable for beginners.
- Big loop: Starting from Lake No. 3, go to Lakes No. 4–9, which requires climbing over high-altitude mountain ridges, about 7 km round trip, and takes a whole day, suitable for people with some physical strength and hiking experience.
Precautions
- Nanjiluo is limited to 200 people per day, and reservations must be made three days to half a month in advance.
- The signal in the mountains is unstable. Be sure to find a guide when walking the big loop. Foreign vehicles are prohibited from entering. You must take the cooperative's operating vehicles and ask for a guide.
- Camping is not allowed in the mountains, and you must go down the mountain after hiking.
- Respect local customs and protect the local ecological environment. Do not litter.
